An Open Letter to Pete D'Alessandro

Dear Petey,

It's been a long time since I sent you my last letter and I'm starting to get the feeling that you don't want to talk to me (or anyone) right now. And you know what? I understand.

No one knows how hard it is being a genius being questioned by a bunch of idiots like I do. A couple of years ago, when I was transforming the Timberwolves into the MOST AWESOME TEAM IN NBA HISTORY, I was destroyed by the press, media, Chris Webber*, people around the league, and the so-called fans who thought picking Ricky Rubio and Jonny Flynn with consecutive picks was a terrible idea (Those guys can suck it. My Rubio/Flynn backcourt is shredding the league this year, so there.) Then the next year, I passed up on Demarcus Cousins (who needs a waste of space like Demarcus Cousins when you have all-NBA talent like Darko Milicic already sitting on your roster?!) to pick future superstar Wes Johnson (I still believe in you Wessyboy!). I also hired coaching prodigy Kurt Rambis to install the most awesome offense in the NBA.

It was all going to plan to0 until the stupid so-called "fans" "ran me out of town" before I could really get things rolling. Lunches for the players, new practice courts, you name it, we had it. We even started winning games despite me having to replace Kurt Rambis with Rick Adelman because the fans wanted a "winning coach". And now look at the ruins of my beautiful team. Flip Saunders as a coach. A bunch of young talent to build with. Tons of cap room. Sickening. Absolutely sickening.

And now I see history is repeating itself and it makes me sad.

There you are, crafting your genius, revolutionary NBA roster (Derrick Williams at backup center? GENIUS!), when your run of the mill, no-fun, defensive-minded lug of a coach starts talking back to you and refuses to implement your next generational suggestions to make a half court team into a running team and play Nik Stauskas at small forward. So you do the only logical thing and fire him while he has the team off to its best start in ten years. After all, you can't let him losing his "best player" to a freak brain infection be an excuse for not using your ingenious schemes to bring upon the NBA its own version of the Pistol offense.

And to think that the feeble-minded "fans" would have the gall to call for your head when you upgrade the head coaching position with an NBA (Vegas Summer League) Champion! Tyrone Corbin won the damn trophy playing basketball the right way, gosh darn it. It doesn't matter if it was against rosters made up of guys from division three schools and the D-League. A championship is a championship and Tyrone Corbin is the guy who is going to take your team to the Promised Land like Basketball Moses (until the offseason when you can replace him with the David Kahn of coaches, Chris Mullin).

So don't get discouraged. Even if you have thousands of fans and hundreds of national writers questioning your moves, just remember that you definitely know better than them and that you just have to be you, no matter what it entails. Vivek hired you to bring about NBA 3.0 but do one better and bring in NBA 4.0. Nothing matters more than your vision and, judging from your glasses, you have that in spades.

With Love,
David Kahn

P.S. You should probably get rid of Demarcus Cousins. No one wins in this league with dominant big men anymore. That's so NBA 1.0.

P.P.S. Don't talk to the media or the fans. It'll only make things worse... Or am I too late for that?

UNDER CONSTRUCTION (Like the Kings team)

P.S. Here's some good ol summer league footage for you and your franchise to base your philosophy on. Watch the amazing dunks and ball movement and defense!

Sincerely,
David.

Oh man, do we ever just need to play a game. Hopefully they'll try to play up to the competition.

...It's against the Thunder? That's OK, Westbrook and Durant are out.

...They're not?

Yeesh.

I didn't realize until today how deflated I feel about the Kings these days. Angry over the move, sure. Even angrier when I realized there wasn't a new coach coming in this season. But today I'm just shrugging my shoulders.

This season I went from not expecting more than a slight improvement to really being excited to see the Kings compete with a chance to win each night to angry & frustrated to now not even bothering to check when there is a game on.

If I didn't post on KF.com I still wouldn't know. I said I wouldn't watch the next game after the Kings squandered a huge lead against Dallas. But I did. Then I said for sure I'd skip a few games after the heartbreaker in Memphis. But I watched the next game. After Malone was fired I was upset but I kept watching. Tonight? I honestly don't think I will. Beyond that I don't know. Unless things change I think maybe I'll just give my blood pressure a break and just check box scores for a while.

We'll see.

I must admit.

As one of the VERY few FO (Vivek and Co.) supporters who remained positive at the time that our head coach was fired, my optimism has been obliterated to pieces. At the end of the day, were still Kings fans and we support this team even during the bleakest of times. I expect a Kings win tonight over a very talented team. As a matter of fact, I'm anticipating a 10+ point win!

Early on in this season, we could hope for a win and, at the very least, come away with a hard fought loss.

Now I'm just hoping we get blown out by less than 20.

Durant owns Rudy (who has reverted to crap). Westbrook will kill us. Adams will get Boogie to do something suspension worthy.

I'll check the box later because I'm a masochist. Props to those who will watch the slaughter.

And, as always.... A big **** you to PDA.

Not that we have a chance in hell of winning this game, but I hope someone reminds Boogie of Perkin's comment prior to our last match-up. That should be enough to have Cuz pound Perkins' fat, scrub head into the floor.

I'm so happy Tetsu posted the game thread. Thanks for adding humor because at this point, the product that's out on the floor and what has happened to any bit of pride is now humorous.

Oklahoma City is absolutely going to crush this game. Probably not going out on the limb there!

Considering they now added Dion Waiters to their lineup they are going to be very difficult to stop in the West again. Westbrook-Waiters-Durant-Ibaka-Adams/Perkins. Very tough lineup. Not like the Kings even have a shot at even coming close to them or any team in the running.

Webber's incredulity at Kahn will never not be funny. When Kahn says that he thinks that Milicic is "like Vlade," and Webber replies, "Like Vlade Divac?", I laugh, every time.
i desperately want to believe that i'm not going to feel the same way about pete d'allesandro when it's all said and done...

That's the only thing keeping me going. Hey, maybe I AM an idiot. And every basketball person. And 99% of the posters here. I mean, hey, everyone else could be wrong.

The numbers are screaming that the team quit on management and the lame duck coach though. Screaming loudly.

I'll be turning this one off early...question is will it be the second or third quarter. OKC goes for about 116 points tonight.

If I know anything about DeMarcus Cousins, it's that he doesn't forgive slights or digs easily (Charles Barkley comes to mind).

Good point - he's proven to remember every slight a player (or even commentator!) has done to him.

The concerning thing is - if he perceives what PDA has done to him (and Malone and to the team) as a slight, then we may be well and truly ****ed.

For their own self-respect, this team has got to play with some passion tonight. Enough with the pity party. It's time for them to fight instead of raising the white flag in the first quarter.

You and I seem to disagree much more often than we agree...except in this case. I am in complete and total agreement and shudder to think of the potential consequences.
