I noticed that we end the regular season with a Home @Home with the lakers. How sweet would it be, if we found ourselves in position to get into the playoffs by sweeping that set?
Do you want to watch Nik struggle all year while force feeding him playing time or would you rather have a steady vet who can make a difference right now and help this team win and get to the playoffs? That's not throwing Nik under the bus but that's wanting to win now and the kid isn't ready yet.
Actually, I don't mind seeing Nik struggle. He is part of our future and has to get comfortable with the NBA game. Winning now would get us where? I suspect a lot of fans think even if we were in full winning mode we still wouldn't make the playoffs. Personally I think we need to play the guys who are part of our long term plans and that includes Nik.
It's kind of silly that we're already starting to see rumblings about Stauskas. We're literally seeing the result of player growth with Ben McLemore and some are already to throw Nik under the bus after 8 games.
Now D-Will is a different story of it being time to give up on a young player. Year 4 for him and he hasn't improved on anything in his game since his rookie year.
Thing is. if last year was this, Ben would have his ass pinned to the bench too. Those sorts of games are for losing lottery bound squads. When you are trying to win you can't afford them. I think we might be the absolute worst team for that stuff right now. At least a veteran playoff tested crew would know how to work around it and be confident even if we let a few slip. But us? We need everything right now. And the more you see how our starters play, the more I would go so far as to say we DESERVE a good bench so that we aren't undercut.
