Acy/Outlaw traded to Knicks

clearing room? Supposedly we would be waiving tyler and possibly using the "stretch provision" on Ellington. Anyone know exactly what that is??

Wow, really going to miss Acy and the passion he brought. What kind of player is Ellington? I remember knowing his name when he was a rookie, but havent followed his career much.

Well Ellington can shoot the three ball, I think, haven't seen him for a long time, it's another shooting guard though which makes you wonder about further moves.

Good roster balancing move. And is there any protection on the 2nd round pick? If not, that's probably the best piece in the deal.

Ellington can't do much else, but he's always been able to shoot the 3 at a high level.

One. Unless this is just a favor to Acy, this doesn't make sense on the surface. They could've just stretched Outlaw if they wanted.
Yeah, the difference between Ellington and Outlaw is so minuscule ($2.77M vs $3.0M) that it's hard to see what we get out of this if indeed we waive Ellington. But Ellington's a great three-point shooter (as noted above) so maybe the guesses that we might stretch him are off. If nothing else he's not bad bench insurance for a complete rookie/sophomore meltdown at the 2, whereas Outlaw was basically useless for us once Casspi came (or technically, is widely expected to come) on board.

yeah if it was a clearing move. Just don't sign acy and strectch outlaw. save nearly 1 mil. this instance you trade for a guy that you waive with a guy you didn't have to sign. maybe its for the 2nd rounder.

We already had the Knicks 2016 2nd round pick (the Blazers traded it to us in the Tyreke/Vasquez/Lopez trade), this deal removes the protection that was on the pick (it was top-37 protected)

He actually scored his career high against us. 26 points (6 threes). Did most of his damage against a Brooks - Jimmer - Tyreke - Johnson - T-Rob line-up. Those were the days.

So we're 15 months in to the Ranadive era, and there are now a grand total of TWO players remaining from the end of the M*l**f era: DeMarcus Cousins and Jason Thompson. And heck, JT is no guarantee to be around in October. That's some massive turnover on a scale I can't remember happening...anywhere, really.

why does everyone expect us to keep on using the stretch provision on this contract or that? Its not a very smart play unless you have pretty much no choice. Then you're still paying for some dude you never even used next year as well.

This move actually makes good sense to me. You trade out some of the glut of PF/SF for a guy you might use at SG. I know people like Acy, but the guy was never going to play. So we bring in Ellington, see if he can make the roster and contribute some shooting (and a good insurance in case Ben/Nik is a failure). And it costs us nothing. We don't give up our expirings (Ellington is also an expiring), so we still have the ability to trade an "ender." Plus we pick up a second rounder. It isn't earth-shattering, but it is logical. I mean, doesn't one roster look much more balanced than the other when you compare:

Cuz/JT
Evans/Landry/Moreland
Gay/DWill/Caspi
Nik/Ben/Ellington
Collison/Ray

OR

Cuz/JT
Evans/Landry/Acy/Moreland
Gay/Dwill/Caspi/Outlaw
Nik/Ben
Collison/Ray

One other possibility is that Ellington is being looked at as a potential backup 2 if one of the young SGs (McLemore I'd assume) is dealt as part of a larger trade.

Otherwise on the surface this is a very meh move.

The Kings could have just not pickup up Acy's option and left Outlaw as a deep bench expiring contract. And considering that it seems likely that Stauskas and Ben get all the SG minutes then Ellington is just as deep bench as Outlaw would have been.

Tyler is a complete non factor as I'd be surprised if he weren't waived.

Strange days.

And Tyler passed through Golden State. So, about all the explanation you need or will get for this odd little non-move.
Reports have us waiving Tyler, whose contract is not guaranteed. The Knicks are actually going to pick up Acy's option, so it's not a "you waive our guy and we'll waive yours" situation.

At this point I would expect Ellington to be on our roster next season.
