Draft position thread

No...

Not straight up. I am sure we would have to take on some salary and give them ending salaries as well. That would only get us a 11-15 pick though. Maybe on draft day we could move up a couple places with our pick and IT.

But nobody is going to give us a pick in the top ten for IT without doing a huge favor for that team we trade with.
I've seen this question being raised on other forums, and it seems the consensus is that a pick in the 20-30 range is acceptable for him. Some even went as far as saying 15-30 is a good price for him, but Gary is right. Nobody in their right mind would give up a top 10 pick for Thomas in this draft.

True, but that was exactly what was said of Paul George when he came out. Huge potential but some definite weaknesses and some questions about his sometimes passive play and inability to create shots.

In my opinion Wiggins is already a better defender and is definitely a better athlete than George. George is a bit bigger and had a more consistent shot in college although Wiggins also has good looking mechanics as George did. The same questions will be asked about Wiggin's motor and desire to improve. I don't see him ever being a Kobe type player because he just doesn't play with that aggressiveness and sense of urgency. But being somewhere around a George/Iguodala/Pippen even McGrady type player? Yeah, I could see that. If Wiggins is committed to putting in the work to be great.

We'll see.
I just don't get it, George must be the most underrated player on this board or something. Or wiggins is still living off high school hype. George is the best perimeter defender so how can you say wiggins is already better. And he is just as athletic as wiggins except he can use it better because he can dribble.

I was specifically comparing the two as college players. And on that front my eyes tell me Wiggins is a better defender now than George was at Fresno State. Most certainly better than George was as a freshman playing against a lower level of competition. After all George's first game was against Sac State. Wiggins debuted against Duke. Their rookie numbers are pretty close with George going for 14.3 ppg and 6.2 rpg vs Wiggins 16 & 6 against better teams. George was clearly a better shooter, especially from distance but Wiggins is just slightly more athletic and (to me) a better defender at the same stage. The rest of their rookie stats are very similar. And George has a great handle now but it was a knock on him in college and especially his freshman year. Just like Wiggins people saw the potential for him to be a good ballhandler and create his own shot but his freshman year he too often settled for long jumpers because he couldn't beat his man off the dribble or pull up and shoot effectively.

Paul George is a bonafide stud at this point and if he came out of college as the player he is now he'd have been the clearest #1 pick since LeBron. But he didn't. He came out just like Wiggins will - as a huge upside player with a long way to go to fulfill that promise.

Maybe IT for Caulley-Stein whoever drafts him if we end up drafting a PG like Exum

Caulley Stein
Cousins
Gay
Ben Mac
Exum

Good enough

Even his personal trainer was surprised, just how dedicated PG turned out to be, and how quickly he progressed, so I wouldn't bet on the same learning curve from prospect with similar tools, since you have no idea, what mental makeup of Wiggins has. You just don't know about bolded part of your post. And betting on that, as if that was absolutely true is setting yourself up for disappointment.
P.S. Out of all top prospects this year only Exum was described as overly dedicated and student of the game, and it's easy to understand, why Kobe would be his favorite player.

Yeah, I have no idea what Wiggin's mentality is and I think a big part of the pre draft process with him will be GMs trying to decipher his desire to be great and inquiring about his work ethic.

Exum is incredibly intriguing to me. And good to hear that he's a gym rat. But he's also likely to be the slowest lottery pick out of the gate just because of the huge jump in competition level. Prep to pro players not named LeBron take a while. Kobe and KG showed real flashes but wven they werent great out if the gate. I'm guessing a rookie season equivalent to Nowitzki's.

IT is a restricted free agent at the end of this season. The Kings can't trade him on draft night. They could sign-and-trade him later but it's doubtful they'd get anything of value in that scenario.
I think IT will sign with the Kings this Summer. Even though I like Jimmer, I think he'll be traded so we could draft Exum. Randle or Vonleh if we're looking to have JT come off the bench

Or maybe IT/Jimmer are still here next year and so we're looking to upgrade JT?

Vonleh might take a while to adapt to the NBA, but he can shoot! 52% from 3 Point... I want Vonleh!

Our position may depend on Cousins present injury situation, something we have heard nothing of except that it is a hip flexer, the same injury that required surgery for Carl Landry.

Randle is a terrible fit next to Cousins but considering our front office is so offense focused, I would not be surprised if they did something like this.

Jimmer doesn't need to be traded to make room for Exum. He's a free agent at season's end.

Vonleh would be a nice consolation if the Kings miss out on Embiid. I want no part of Randle. I'd trade back and pick up Willie Cauley-Stekn before I'd pair Randle with Cousins.

Don't scare me. ;) This is one year where I think the concept of drafting BPA can be thrown out as if Randle is available whenever we draft, there is someone else more useful available. Given the vagaries of how people develop, BPA is not an exact science.

So you're thinking Embiid and move DMC to a power forward? I think Embiid will be #1 or 2, so there a little chance Kings will get a shot at him

If Kings got Embiid somehow, man.. I couldn't be happier. Watching his shot blocking would be exciting but so is his 61% FG

Let us say that Boogie's hip flexor injury requires surgery like Landry's did. What do you think our adds are of winning any more games this year? There is always a statistical possibility of getting the number 1 pick.

The kings can draft for BPA, but just take Randle. I wouldn't mind him on the kings, but I just don't see how he fits. I think he can improve on defense, but right now I wouldn't want him next to Cuz.

My personal rankings-
1. Embiid
2. Exum
3. Wiggins
4. Parker
5. Vonleh
6. Cauley-Stein
7. Tyler Ennis
8. Doug McDermott
9. Dario Saric
10. Marcus Smart
11. Aaron Gordon

Yes, and it might be better for the morale of the organization to not flat out nose dive down the stretch of the season. It is a tease for me though to hang around 3rd and 4th worst record when my intellectual mind knows that it's probably going to be a non impact pick with big 3 in tact for the remainder of the season

In addition to "seeing what our youth can do" I'll also be interested in seeing if there will be significant change to the big threes minutes during this home stretch

This is what has me wondering what they are going to do. Two of their minutes I don't see changing because they are the "big" two going forward (hopefully with Gay opting out and resigning at a more reasonable contract) but the third one I would really like to see minutes lowered with a more balanced approach.

I guess it depends what your looking for. Being "pro tank" I want a high pick. I would like to believe management is getting on board with a conservative approach to winning starting with their aim at playing the youth. I wouldn't mind personally for gay and cuz minutes to be phased down because I don't want wins. However I understand if management does not want to teach or promote a losing culture and won't implement my desires

With our record I don't know why Cousins is coming back before being 120 percent. I'm guessing both he and Malone have no concern about whether we're in the mix for Parker/wiggins as opposed to hood/vonleh or whoever. I respect that about both of them and you need players and coaches with winning personalities, but as pro tank I personally see it as an organization working against itself

At this point, drafting a Parker/Wiggins would be nice but it seems like Gay, IT and Cousins are the future at least temporarily. We will draft a shot blocker and hope that Ben Mac turns out to be a great shooter/defender for us.

Too many "hopes" and gambles for this team. I honestly think we should have just kept Cousins out a bit more and secured a top 5 pick but whatever. Cauley-Stein would be nice or even Vonleh.

I think we will trade the pick for an impact player, it looks like the front office wants to win now. I could see us trading the pick for the likes of Hendon, Sanders, Afflalo, or rondo

Straight from the horse's mouth on situation after deadline:
So it was a little anticlimactic for me, but I still think we made very solid moves and we’re still putting ourselves in a position to kind of move forward and build a team through our youth and our athleticism.

If that's the case, how come we're still letting Rudy Gay and Isaiah Thomas take more than half of the team's shots? Am I the only one who thinks it's highly likely that both of these players are wearing a different uniform next season?

Both? No way. Maybe one, but there's no way in hell we let both walk. Otherwise, we're back at square 1 with the team being Boogie and scrubs.
