Malone calls out team for no defense

I listen to the interview and ask why the heck isn't Ray M playing....at a minimum, taking Jimmer's minutes. Give Jimmer minutes at SG or sit him....could care less. You have 1 guard who has shown an ability, in his brief time, to be able to adequately defend at an NBA level. Give him meaningful minutes to grow, surround him with 1st unit guys who can take pressure off offensively and see what happens. If he turns out that he can help, I'd would so sit ITs butt down more often.

I have an inkling that this is what we will see once the trade deadline passes.

If you're going to compare IT and Parker's minutes, you may as well compare the economy of Peru to the pop music scene in Thailand. The situations between the two players is completely different. Parker's in the later end of his career on a team that pretty much doesn't require him to be too productive to win during the regular season where as IT is one of our three main cogs on a team that pretty much needs 2/3 of our big three to produce to win. Plus, you conveniently forgot to mention the fact that the team's been missing its two best players for the past week.

I do agree that IT needs to be playing less minutes but to use Tony Parker's minutes as some example isn't exactly a good justifier either.
Firt, Parker is in the prime of his career. He's not on the downhill slide. This 31-year old "he's an old man stuff" is ridiculous. Second, to say that Parker is not integral to the Spurs...well, that's just a flabergasting statement. If he isn't, who is? Third, Pop is one of the all time greats as a coach. Maybe we should learn from the best. No? Lastly, it's nice that we agree on the conclusion at least.

Yea i really don't understand why Jimmer plays over Ray Mac. especially with how much Malone preaches defense and complains about the defense from the guys that have been playing

We're going to find out after the trade deadline who Coach Malone really wants to play. I suspect that will mean more playing time for McCallum but it's going to depend on what happens trade-wise as well if there's some changes to the roster. He's the only guy who hasn't really had much of a shot this season and think that's mostly because we're trying to find takers for Jimmer, Thornton, and maybe IT.

You must have not actually read my post because I pretty much did not say any of the things you put me down as saying.

Malone: Mike Conley is an all-star level point guard in my eyes. I've said it many times this season. I think he's one of the more under-rated players in the NBA. He's got a lot of playoff experience, he's a two-way player. The reason I like Mike Conley so much - he's a guy who plays both ends of the floor and that's becoming a very rare breed in the NBA. He has an impact on both ends, he runs his team, he's an improved three-point shooter, he makes the right plays for his teammates. I'm not surprised he's had his way with us all three games this year. And that's why he's the player that he is.

That can be taken taken as a shot at our PG or more importantly, IMO, what he wants from his PG and why I think he and PDA are still looking for one. Whether it's answering questions on MT not getting enough touches on offense or repeated questions on our perimeter defense, there's one guy at the center of the equation on both ends and I don't believe Malone is all that pleased about it but is stuck playing the PR game and not throwing a key player for us under the bus.
How many point guards represent the portion of Malone's statement you bolded? Even he said they are a rare breed.

I think it's because of Thornton's body language last night. He looked disinterested and pouty most of the night. Now on one hand he was completely being ignored by IT and Gay but on the other he needs to grow up and be a man about it. He's constantly dropping his head and letting his arms flap around like he's mad about his role. It's time to grow up and play your role out until you get traded.

Not the point of the comment. Malone has made it clear he wants guys out there who will at least attempt to play defense. Ray will do that. Whether he can run an offense or not isn't the focus. As Malone has said, our offense has won 15 games so it's not like it's sacrosanct.
It matters to an extend. It's why N'Diaye was a bench warmer here.

For real fun check out bruski's recent timeline where he talks about how good IT is at defense.
Bruski was great covering the Seattle saga, but when it comes to his basketball opinions it is best to ignore him. If he were given the option to pick any 2 NBA players to build a franchise, he would pick Isaiah Thomas and Patrick Beverly

Beverely would actually be a sweet combo with IT. Very good defensive guard

I agree with chief bromden and jcwkings that Ray starts getting playing time after the trade deadline. Pete, Malone and Crew need to see what he can do in the NBA so they know how to move forward.

The part where he says he reviewed all of Conley's points last night and "can all but guarantee that IT will be the last person chewed out by Malone on those plays", or the part where he said IT will receive an All Star berth within 2-3 years?

I see a trade of IT and MT for Conley coming up. Just a joke, kinda. ;) I don't even know if it could be done and much less if the Griz would do it.
I would be astonished if Memphis would trade Conley at this stage let alone for IT.

Like Malone said, Conley is a rare breed these days because he plays both way at a high level. He runs his team and gets his points within the flow of the offence. He would be perfect for this team just like here is a perfect fit for the Memphis team.

And you forgot Larry Sanders.

As you said, he was great covering the arena and relocation business but his basketball knowledge is pretty average. Its funny how IT never gets burnt on D and its the rest of the team's fault for not rotating to cover his man.

Err....that is precisely the problem...he cannot keep a stool in front of him, let alone a half decent player.

He also said IT was only responsible for one basket of Conley's last night

Now let me see: Conley, a pg, had 27 pts and 10 assists. IT, a pg, played about 38 minutes. What on earth was IT doing? Was he even on the same court?

I believe Conley averaged 16 pts per game this season although I haven't checked to be absolutely sure. What was IT responsible for? His team leading scoring and nothing else?

You don't understand, once Conley blows by IT it's no longer IT's responsibility to stop him ;)
