Ray McCallum and the Reno Bighorns

Kings announce Ray McCallum has been assigned to Reno Bighorns of D-League - Jason Jones Twitter

I agree with the move, I really want to see him play but he will get no playing time with our current roster

Dude12 is going to be a bit disappointed, but I agree with you as well... It's good for Ray to get to compete and keep working before he makes the step up.

It's not unexpected with the way GV and IT have been playing. I'm not particularly enamoured of Vasquez, though. If we could flip him in a trade to pick up a good piece elsewhere, I would love to bring McCallum back up to get some real burn to see if his defense was as good as it appeared.

I think this is a good move. With all the trade talk, I would like to think we were maybe opening up a roster spot.... but I know Ray to the DLeague was inevitable. So i havent gotten my hopes up

I think this was pretty widely expected. The Bighorns' season starts tomorrow, and I think they wanted to keep McCallum with the big club (just in case) until he was going to be able to get some actual playing time in for Reno.

Not unexpected! Once into the season the team doesn't get to practice nearly as much, so sending him to Reno is the right thing to do.

Perfect move. Stash him on our D league. He's under contract to us so we don't risk losing him and he gets some valuable experience that he can hopefully use at some point in the future.

If Ray ends up being as good as some are already saying he could be, our PG problems could be on their way out. :)

yay i get to go watch him play here, for however many games they do play. how many players come out of d-league from their rookie years and do well though, or have that team keep them? we did lose tyler honeycutt

Not sure what relevance that has. Honeycutt is playing in the Israeli league, so it's not like we lost him and he started to light it up on another NBA team.

And we didn't lose him. We traded him to Houston, who then sent him down to the D-League team Vipers before waiving him so they could sign Aaron Brooks. He re-signed with the Vipers and then signed with the Israeli Super League. (per Wikipedia.)

It's a good move for Ray and the Kings. The kid sounds like a worker, and this will give him much more of an opportunity to do so than sitting on the pine in Sacto.

Does this mean we are potentially picking up an extra piece in a trade at some point?

Regardless, glad he will be working on his game legs after not seeing the court for a couple weeks. Practice/scrimmages just don't cut it after a while.
