From a Sacramento Kings email:

As a valued member of the Sacramento community, you are invited to participate in a survey regarding the new entertainment and sports center (ESC) in downtown Sacramento.

The Sacramento Kings, in partnership with the City of Sacramento, are in the process of developing the design and would like your input on some of potential concepts and ideas.

I took survey couple days ago but don't recall "retractable roof" option. There was something about open air concourse or some such. Basically my understanding is that design would allow additional up to 10,000 outdoor fan viewing for concerts mainly. I suppose for basketball games it might have very large video screen to view the game and "feel a part of it" and maybe extend loud outdoor noise back inside the arena.

Yes, there was a question about how import the indoor/outdoor option was and then there we a free form portion. I'm not sure that the option to open the arena is there for basketball games. Besides the games being played in winter, you can't have things like wind gusts going on in a pro game. Whatever is being planned, Vivek said he has run it by the NBA and it's a go.

Having video screens on the outside and a place for people to gather will be awesome though. In addition, being able to open the arena for summer time concerts will definitely be unique for an arena.

I still need to finish it, if it hasn't timed out yet. Whoever designed it is out of their mind having one of the questions ask you to order ~15 things in one go.

I just want to get out of the parking lot a lot quicker. Like you know, less than an hour. I drive up from L.A. and then exhausted as hell am waiting for gas tank to go past E in the lot.

I filled mine out. I'm really hoping for a single tier of luxury suites as opposed to two. If you go to Staples Center, you're sitting on top of THREE tiers and as you may have guessed, the sight lines are horrible and you can't see anything.

Most small market teams have one tier. Milwaukee, New Orleans, Portland, Utah, San Antonio and OKC. As a result, they all have great sight lines. Plus, you can still double the amount of suites that you have at STA. STA was built crunched in so the ring of suites can only stretch so much. Therefore, you wind up with just 36 or whatever. Portland built their arena out so you have 72 suites but all in one tier.

I saw the early renderings where it looks like Barclays Center but I'm thinking that's just someone running with the Barclays Center look since AECOM is involved and they needed some sort of model to throw out there. The only problem is those renderings have a 2 tier suite setup and that would be bad for sight lines.

If there was one thing that the Maloofs were right about, it's that the arena should still have some sort of intimate appeal to it as opposed to totally catering to the big money types. The new arena will need to upgrade from STA with....

-Larger loading docks to get all types of events that currently can't come to STA
-Multiple concourses (I'm thinking 3 as you could have one for the lower bowl, one for the suite level and one for the upper bowl)
-Multiple kitchens
-More concession options due to having multiple concourses
-More concourse space
-Elevators and escalators. Maybe have elevators take suite patrons to their concourse while the escalators take you from the lower to upper concourse and vice versa.
-An ice layout that can convert from basketball to ice in less 5 hours
-Better locker rooms
-Better sound system
-A matrix board. Combined with Vivek's tech saavy ways, there are numerous revenue sources that can come from that.

You can have all that and still give the fans great sightlines as well as 72 luxury suites and club seating.

Not sure you can have one ring of 72 suites AND a close intimate feel. Bankers Life Fieldhouse and Barclays Center are considered to have great sight lines and be intimate, yet they have two tiers of suites. I think we will be OK on that front. I do agree with your other suggestions.

I guess a lot depends on what type of demand there is. If demand calls for 50-60 suites then yeah, maybe they can close the gap a bit and make the seating similar to STA. We'll see.

I filled it out a few days ago. Besides all the bells and whistles all we should really care about is

Make it loud

Make it accessible (by car)

Make it awesome

All that green crap, who cares. They are going to do that anyway, not sure why they are asking it. The small micro percentage of people who would or wouldn't go to the stadium because of how "green" it is, is not even worth worrying about.
