Heres a cuple young Small Forwards I think we should consider.

Orlando has both Mo Harkless and Tobias Harris at SF.. Both had promising starts too their careers. Im wondering if we could pry on of them from the Magic?

Mo Harkless

Compares to : Trevor Ariza

Strengths: Harkless passes the eye test at 6'8 with smooth athleticism and great length (wingspan is roughly 7'2) ... His ability to attack the rim from the perimeter gives him a distinct advantage over his defender who is unlikely to share his agility ... Quick first step and comfortable handle and footwork for his size ... He has a great feel for the rim, and can score by hitting off-balance shots at awkward angles ... His jumper has range out to 20 feet, and although he shot poorly from downtown, he has promising mechanics, especially when his feet are set ... He's got a quick second jump: he gets off the ground and reaches the ball before his defender, resulting in tip-ins and rebounds given his length ... Runs the floor like a guard ... Defensively he reads passing lanes extremely well, and frequently gets tips, deflections or blocks.

One od Mo's Better Games.

Tobias Harris:

Compared to: Shane Battier with more offense

Strengths: Tobias is a talented, combo forward with a skill-set suited for NBA play ... Has good versatility and a great feel for the game ... His ability to handle the ball makes him a tough match-up for opposing bigs, however he'll need to develop a consistent outside stroke to make him more of a threat off the dribble ... He uses a combination of strength and agility to either overpower or elude his defender ... He has broad shoulders solid upperbody with plenty of room to fill out ... Harris has the ability to put the ball on the floor, with a deceivingly quick first step that creates mismatch problems at the high post ... Shows timely slashing across the middle, where he can catch and score in the paint with either hand ... He has an excellent touch and feel around the basket, finding ways to convert on floaters and runners in the lane... Positions his body effectively for easy opportunities in the low post ... Solid leaper ... His long arms and upper-body strength should help him on the defensive side of the ball moving forward ... Has a lot of potential being one of the youngest players in the entire draft. Unlike many freshmen, he's an 18 year old ... A bright kid. A gymrat who works hard on his game and shows a mature "professional" mindset

One of Harris' best games.

Just thought I'd throw these guys names out there. I think they would both fit well on our squad.

Feel free too name some other Young Small Forwards you like :)

Yeah, these guys would be target 1a and target 1b at SF but I think they're both well liked around the league, including in Orlando, so the asking price is going to be either very high or they're completely off the table. Harkless is a personal favorite of mine and he has the potential to bring us a lot of the same skills as Andre Igoudala at a bargain basement price point if we can get him. Unfortunately I think the asking price is going to start with a future first round pick, but they do still need a PG so maybe they're interested in Isaiah as part of a trade.

I still really like Derrick Williams as well -- and he doesn't seem to have a place in Minnesota. They already couldn't find minutes for him and now they're bringing in KMart to play SG and they drafted Shabazz Muhammad and re-signed Chase Budinger. He has just two years left on his contract and it's not nearly the bargain that Harkless or Harris' deals are (to put it lightly) which also makes him an easier get. It seems likely they move him this off-season for the best offer they can get. He's not a standout defender but he does have the size and athleticism to defend at a high level with better focus on that end. He was also much improved as an outside shooter last year. He's not a playmaker in the sense that Igoudala would be, but he'll help to create possessions and fast breaks by causing deflections and coming up with loose balls.

Another former #2 pick who's been mostly disappointing, Evan Turner might be available as Philly is angling for high draft picks next season under the new front office regime. He's sortof an Igoudala-lite type of guy who is a very good playmaker at that wing position and also an above-average rebounder, but his effort level and shooting have both been inconsistent (similar to Williams) and he's on the last year of his rookie deal so he's going to get more expensive next year. He had a big jump in 3pt % this season but his overall FG % was way down (at alarming levels) and he's also not known as a defender. Oh and his production declined as the season went on after a terrific start. I don't see him as an ideal fit at all, but he is talented. And probably available.

And lastly, this is hardly a solution in itself, but it might be worth it to claim Chris Singleton off the scrap heap from Washington. With Porter coming in, he's going to be available for cheap and he's got potential as a long 3 and D roleplayer with the ability to fill some minutes at PF. He had a truly horrific sophmore season on almost every level but he could improve in a different system.

Sorry, it really bugged me. I get the general sense of the post, but think that the FO is looking to fill our needs with vets. Should they want to go with youth, these look like good choices.

I like Turner a lot. I think is very talented and hasn't been given a fair shake in philly, so we'll see if our front office sees his availability.

I like Turner the best out of everyone you mentioned. Brings all the intangibles and his shooting got way better last year. I agree with Darth that I dont think he got a fair shot in Philly. I've read alot on the philly boards that people think he just dosent fit wit the players they have sorrounded him with. He would be a good fit beside Reke if he could shoot effectively.

I could get on board with a pick up of Turner

I love Jeff Taylor from Charolette. Strong, Super Athletic, Shutdown Defender, Nice shooting stroke out to three, Role Player mentality. He had a good rookie year starting 29 games for the Cats.

We could probably get him pretty easily because Michael Jordan dosent know what hes doing.

if we keep reke at pg we are going to need a SF that is a capable passer. Turner fits that bill not as good as Iggy but above 4 a game. not to shabby.

I agree. Turner ran alot of Phillys offense last year. He would be perfect splitting that role with Reke. And maybe Chris Jent could improve his jumpshot. The thing is Philly just traded Holiday.. So maybe they are planning on playing ET at PG this season? Unless they think MCW is ready for that role..

Trades that make sense under trade checker:

Thompson For Turner works straight up.. MT Straight up for Turner works aswell. I could see MT being a good fit beside MCW.

MCW/MT/JRich/Thad Young/Noel Reke/Mclemore/Turner/Ppat/Cuz Trade looks good for both teams.

Tobias Harris isn't going anywhere after the 2nd half of the season he had. That is unless we give them an unbelievable offer.

I'd bet that Harkless would probably be hard to pry from Orlando as well.

I like Tobias Harris...but I love Jeff Taylor. After MKG...he was the player I really wanted the Kings to acquire in last year's draft. He's got a good set shot...is a fantastic athlete...and has great lateral quickness and likes to play defense. His biggest issue is with his length...as he doesn't quite have the length that you'd want in a defensive-minded SF.

I was really frustrated when the Bobcats ended up getting my two favorite players, both SFs, in last year's draft.

As to Evan Turner...I actually really wanted to pair him next to Tyreke when he came out of Ohio St...and would be completely on board if we brought him in to man our SF spot. He's got great ball handling and passing skills...needs to work on his shot...and is not a liability on defense. (Though he isn't the defender that AI or AK are)

Singleton is another player that I'd like to get a look at as I really loved his defense and hustle while at Florida St. He needs to work on his jumper...but if he can get a hang on that and be worked into the offense so he isn't responsible for doing much on offense except hitting open shots and hitting the Offensive boards...he provides a lot on the other end of the floor.

I guess what I am trying to say is that there are a ton of young SFs who I would be perfectly happy to bring in. If you can get them with-out giving too much...then perhaps you can use Thornton as the primary piece to bring in a good interior defending big man.

I'd be willing to go with any of the below as our SF next year....especially if it meant we could acquire a good interior big defender.
Jeff Taylor (Defense & Spot Shooting...lacks length)
Evan Turner (Great ball-handling/passing. Decent defense...but needs to get more consistent with his shot)
Chris Singleton (Defense/Hustle/Length...Lacks great shooting and tries to do too much on offense. (Think James Johnson))
Tobias Harris (All-around solid SF with size and decent offense/defense)
Jordan Hamilton (Great size/length, great rebounder, good shooter...questions on his defense)

I take it from Uncia03's note that the world did not stop spinning on its axis with the non-signing of Iggy.

Im glad you brought Hamilton up. Everytime I catch myself watching a Nugs game, I am amazed at this kid. Very good scorer/shooter, and like you said he has the size length/athleticism to be a good defender.

Im glad you like Taylor aswell. Hes going to be special in this league. I just have the gut feeling when I watch him. He reminds me of Wilson Chandler (Jeffs a better defender tho). Even if we dont get him too start I think he would be great as a 2/3 off the bench.

Well...I've been wanting IA as our SF from the first time that I heard that Philly might not be including him in their long-term plans. I just love what he brings to a team.

With that said...keeping Tyreke is the most important move in my opinion...and there are a lot of SFs who could come in and mesh well with the team...at potentially a fraction of AI's cost.

Also...as I've mentioned before...if we're going to do a S&T with Thornton...I think I'd almost rather do it for a defensive interior big man than for the SF...as I think the team will ultimately be better with a stronger defensive big than with a stronger SF. The SF position does need to be addressed though...so hopefully it will be done this off-season.

Yeah...I watched a ton of Vanderbilt games (probably never will again) specifically for Jeff Taylor. Out of all the SFs who have come out of the draft in the last 2 years...he's my second favorite behind MKG. His biggest problem is just with his length...as you mention he's a 2/3 and I just wish he had the same length as MKG/Hamilton/Singleton/ect. But if we had somehow managed to land him last year...I would have loved to see him try to fill the SF position.

As of now...I think he brings all the things we would want...and he's actually a good passer...while being unselfish. He always did a good job of getting the ball down to Ezeli in the post...and he also did a good job of swinging the ball to Jenkins to make shots.

The only thing i would be concerned about if we started him with Reke and Mc would be his ballhandling. Hes not the greatest creator. And I think thats a must at SF if we plan on starting reke at PG. Thats why I think he may be better suited as our super swedish sixth sub ... random alliteration lol

I agree. I think we need to upgrade in a way that has the most need. An upgrade over Salmons can happen and that is clear but a defensive upgrade over JT has much more impact to the team. This has been my frustration with our (the forum) focus on a search for a guard. We need a better set of guards but the defensive big changes the team far more than than a better set of guards. I say "set" as I think the pick of McLemore and the fact we have Tyreke paints us into a corner. It may not be a bad corner but we'll see. We don't know. Point being (pun intended), the signing of a "true" PG will create more of a problem and may be a waste of money considering we have IT.

As an aside, if we had picked Noel, the conversation would be very different.

I liked Singleton a lot in college. His strength is defense. He has the ability to be a defensive stopper at the SF position, and he's also capable of guarding the PF position. He actually shot the three fairly well his last year in school. Not sure how much of a chance since he's had since coming into the league. But if gotten cheap enough, he would be worth the risk.

I've always liked Harris, and was impressed with him in summer league last year. He shot the ball well, and he has a good post game for a SF. He's another that could, with the right matchup, guard the PF position on occasion. With Harkless, your betting on potential. Very good athlete, with defensive lockdown potential. Not a good outside shooter, and thats his major flaw. He also needs to get stronger. Not a problem that either Singleton or Harris have.

You have no idea how much Uncia03 likes Taylor. He's all I heard about for 4 years, and I have to admit, he finally convinced me. We both loved Turner, and I'd be surprised if Philly actually wanted to move him. But who knows. I'm also a big Hamiliton fan. His pullup baseline move is almost unstoppable, and he's a terrific rebounder for a SF. Hamiliton knows how to use a pick, and operates well in the pick and roll.

corey brewer anyone? i kno he doesnt have a gd % from 3. bt hes a decent defender, plays hard, good size for the sf...i wouldnt mind signing him for 3-4 mil if we have ppat as our starting PF.
