The fate of the Sacramento Kings will be decided quite soon. The NBA's Board of Governors has heard the proposals of both Chris Hansen's Seattle-based ownership group and the group of politicians and businessmen focused on keeping the club in Sacramento. There's more work to be done before the final vote on Hansen's offer , but it looks as if we'll have a resolution relatively soon. In other words, the primary players can try to improve their offers, but they're mostly going to do a plot of waiting. Of course, that hasn't stopped current Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof from issuing a meaningless deadline to the Sacramento group. We don't know where the Kings (or Sonics) will play next season, and this news doesn't clarify that situation in any meaningful way. What it does prove, for the nth time, is that the NBA will be a better place when the Maloofs no longer own a franchise.

That says it all.
