This is more curiosity on my part than anything else. It's painfully apparent that we need a third reliable defensive big in our rotation. I've been suggesting Larry Sanders for awhile as an ideal solution for us. He's a top shot-blocker and interior defender who's mobile enough to play alongside Cousins, but also strong enough defensively to anchor the middle when Cousins is on the bench. That sets up a three man rotation in the frontcourt where Thompson plays more or less the same role he is now and Sanders is the primary backup at C but splits his time equally between PF and C.

He's making $11 million this season and will make an additional $11 million in each of the following 3 seasons. He's averaging 21 minutes per game this season, splitting time equally with Zaza Pachulia at C though Pachulia's minutes have been trending up and Sanders' have been trending down. I have no way of knowing what Milwaukee's front office is thinking, but they certainly aren't playing him like he's part of their core and his physical twin John Henson is waiting in the wings and a whole lot cheaper.

He comes with a number of concerns:

(1)....His overall numbers this year and last year aren't worth the contract he signed, and per36 he's fallen off 1 pt, 2reb, and 1 blk from his best year so far in 2013. (His steals have gone up though)
(2)....He's a noted hothead who seemed to be moving in the wrong direction attitude-wise last year.
(3)....He currently leads the league in fouls, so pairing him with fellow top 10 foulers Thompson and Cousins has some historic potential, and not the good kind.
(4)....

Obviously those are all pretty serious concerns. On the other hand...

(1)....He's 7th in the league in block percentage and offensive rebound percentage so far this year. He missed too much of last season to qualify on leaderboards, but the year before he led the league in block percentage and blocks per game.
(2)....Years and mileage -- 26 years old and 228 NBA games played to date which is less than three seasons worth (strike year in 2012, limited by injuries in 2014). Has room for improvement and a lot left in the tank.
(3)....He's really good at defense: (link)
(4)....Advanced stats dudes love him! (link)

So what do you think?

earlier in the year I would of said yes...now..not so much, he is a hothead and I'd prefer the Kings stick to good character players. He and DeMarcus would probably strangle each other before long.

He has not been a hot head this year from what I have seen, if anything when I have watched him play this year he seems to have lost some of that fire that made him what we was. If it's a deal where we easily win out than off course you trade for Larry Sanders.

Having a frontline of Cuz/Sanders/JT is pretty damn nice.

I don't know if he's officially available, but most teams that are paying a player $11 million per year of a deal signed under a different ownership group and only playing him 12-20 minutes per game would at least listen to offers. I do know that the fans are very open to moving him based on reading through message boards and they're looking for a replacement big and/or a guard who can shoot. Looking at their roster and how Kidd is using it so far, it seems likely to me that Sanders will be shipped out for the right offer.

Personally I'd be willing to offer anyone not in our starting five to nail down the vital third big spot in the rotation right now. Stauskas and Landry seems like a reasonable offer to me. They'd be getting last year's #8 pick and a bench big who can score inside. They also shave a whole year of a Sanders' salary off their cap with minor savings the first three years and the added advantage of splitting it up among two players, and filling a need for more perimeter shooting.

Anyway, the point is-- I think something could be worked out if we were really interested. The bigger question for me at this point is "should we be interested or does the risk drastically outweigh the potential reward?" Hence the reason for the poll. I've been in favor of a Sanders trade for two years and I'm even starting to second guess it at this point, so I was curious where others stand on that question right now.

Sanders for Landry and Stauskas? I would do it, cause Big Man, who can protect the rim are rare and other teams have proven, that it's possible to find a viable 3&D type player on bargain contracts. With Ben's improvement in mind Stauskas might develop into a very nice player, but will only give us value beyond a bargain 3&D guy, when his playmaking ability finally reaches his college level of play.

I am not sure if he can play PF the in west. He has played in the east in his career. He would be guarding Aldridge, Z-Bo, Dirk, Ibaka, Griffin, Duncan, Green/Lee in GS, and Asik. Can he do that? I really doubt it.

The only person I'm worried about on that list is Aldridge and you need a guy with sanders hieght/length to even contain him.

I'd easily trade Nik also you can replace him easily and Ben will be playing 37+min anyway.

Asik and Ibaka seriously?

The problem is whether Smith is big enough, we are talking about 20-30 pounds difference.
We are talking about Larry Sanders who is like 6'10 with long arms and wirey strong. I don't expect Sanders to be able to guard skilled monsters like Nene/Cousins/Marc Gasol or even a brute like Pekovic but aside from that he's fine.

Which is why we should try to hang onto Jason Thompson -- he's done a good job of checking physical guys like Blake and KLove near the basket. Cousins and Thompson can body up the bigger post threats while Sanders can stick with more perimeter oriented forwards that Jason struggles to defend, provide weak-side help, and at least give us a chance to maintain leads while Cousins is on the bench.

Lets go full on bat poopoo crazy. Let get Sanders, Stephenson and Josh Smith.

Well if we're going to become a circus, might as well emulate the best circus the world has ever known... The Flying Circus! Maybe the time has come to go full- Monty Python. :) Cause you know, there's no point going half- Monty Python, it's an all or nothing kind of endeavor.
