Women's Final Four Prediction

Because the media (read: ESPN) is too lazy to promote another one to lift it to the same level of prominence as UConn/Tenn is one reason.

When parity hits the women's game ESPN better be ready. It's coming relatively speaking in about two years. Rutgers' young recruiting class will learn to play together. Tenn is losing 4 starters/LSU will lose it's entire starting lineup. Well, hell the loss of this senior class across the country is going to make a lotta teams either AWFUL young or leave significant holes to fill.

I want Stanford to take it all because I'm tired of the east-centric media downplaying the talent that's out here. The Stanford run and Candice Wiggins' career has been so remarkably special. Stanford hasn't lost a game since early January and Wiggins has been playing out of her mind.

WTG - Stanford Cardinal!!

Does anyone know the last year that the Cardinal made the NCAAW finals? I know I could look it up, but.........I am lazy.

Stanford was last in the Nat'l Championship game in 1992 when they beat Western Kentucky. This was their first trip to the Final Four since 1997, when, um, Ticha and her Old Dominion team knocked them out.

Thanks! I did remember their last title in '92. I could not remember if they had made a trip to the finals since then.

Well, that bodes well for them then. Last time they made it to the "big show" they won the National Championship. Let's hope for a repeat.

BTW - I agree with MBF's comment about the east-centric media. Time to bring that title back out west.

GO STANFORD CARDINAL!!

Question: Where have the WNBA All-Star games been played every year?
Answer: Except for the 2000 game played in Phoenix, they've ALL been on the East Coast.

That's correct. Phoenix, New York (several times), Washington DC (twice), Orlando, and the Mohegan Arena in Connecticut have all hosted the WNBA All-Star Game.

I'm not sure if they're going to have one this year, due to the Olympics. Or they could do what they did in '04: U.S. National Team versus a select group of WNBA players. But if they do, I haven't heard any word about a locale.

FWIW, I heard that the Madison Square Garden will undergo a renovation starting in 2009. Therefore, the N.Y. Liberty will be temporarily displaced to another place in 2009 and (most likely) 2010. If there is another ASG in either of those years, it will have to be in a different location.

How nice would Wiggins look wearing Monarchs Purple and starting at the 2. To me, she is exactly what the Monarchs need. I never paid much attention to her before. What I saw from her was a herky jerky type game (anti Maia Moore) that had a funky shot. Now I see leader, passion, enthusiasm, hustle, rebounder, offensively efficient. When Minnesota adds her to the mix along with Lady Seimone and Lindsay Harding, they are going to be a force in the West sooner rather than later.

Purple,
Love ya but you've lost it wit this one. We have a traffic jam at the 2 right now. Newton, Tangie, Powell (2/3), & Sho. We need to get a 5, but what's the deal with Wiz. Why have we not replaced Yo?

And further are any of you wondering why Yo hasn't offically retired yet?

In my view, i don't care who we are playing at the two Wiggins is far superior than anybody we have at that position (including Lawson) in almost every aspect of the game except defense. And because she is a leader and a gamer, I am sure she will do whatever is needed, including defense.

...except that I don't think the Monarchs will be able to land Wiggins. What I fear the most is that Evil Bill --- er, I mean, the Detroit Shock, who has the #4 pick --- will select her. :(

Man, it just doesn't seem right that a team that was only one game away from a WNBA championship would have TWO first-round picks in the following year's draft!

I understand we don't have a shot, I am just saying wouldn't it be nice. I think she is going to Minnesota at #3. Minny though would not mind a veteran big player though to go with the two young stars they already have, so a trade may not be so far fetched.

I am not saying the Monarchs should trade. But I do think that #3 pick could be had for the right price.
