WNBA Announces Rule Changes For 2006 Season

I'm very ok with the change to quarters in principle. Goodness knows we don't need the refs to have to have reason to toss any more jump balls up in the air and I think the shot clock change is good too.

A twenty-four second shot clock means twenty more possessions per game. Which should, in turn, mean more scoring. More scoring = more entertaining basketball.

I'm also on board with four quarters versus two halves; I've always felt that the WNBA should attempt to distinguish itself from college ball and/or lower level professional basketball, and a different color ball wasn't getting it done.

^ Ditto.

I like the rule changes. The 24 second shot clock will speed the game up and that plays to our team's strength. The Monarchs are very athletic and can easily play the run-and-gun style.

I forgot to check...the backcourt violation time should change too. Any mention of how many seconds they have to get across the timeline? I don't see this as a problem for us, Ticha can break whatever pressure is applied, but I see this benefitting us with our defense against opposing PGs.

I like the 4 Quarters system too, even if just for the fact that Margo Dydek will only get to win one tap a game. But I also like it because it leads to more "last second" plays.
