Or forgive the current loan? The idea of helping these broke *** POS owners doesn't really appeal to me, but if it'd let Sacramento keep ITS TEAM I'd say do it! the Kings are that important to the city/region.
Why doesn't Sacramento offer The Maloofs a loan to stay?

There would be a tax payer revolt. BUT, I am more with you than against you. The people of this area cannot see a tangible benefit to a pro team and think it only benefits sports fans. The area needs education as to the jobs, ancillary jobs, business that are thinking of moving here, all that stuff. All Sacramento can see is a rabid fan base that wants to see the Kings and they have to pay for our fun.
I don't claim to know what a pro team is worth in real live dollars and cents, taxes, jobs - well, money. If someone could come up with a reasonably credible number and tell the voters, I think the attitude would shift.
Orlando has the Democratic National Convention in 2012. They expect to have a cash inflow to the city of $200 mil. That's a concrete (kinda) number. Certainly no matter what the number is, the number is big.
Groan! We have no arena or hotels. This kind of thing will not happen here but on a smaller scale, something else will happen.

Of course. But, (where's kennadog when I need info) the bond aka loan is held by investors with the backing of the city. As long as the investors get paid, the city is out nothing. Kennadog!!!!!!!!! I'm over my head, here!!!! It's probably more of a loss of income than an expense. That's the same thing in the end but I don't think the average person sees it this way. It's also money paid over the next 20 some years and in some ways, insignificant. Kennadog!!! or is it kennadog!!!!!

Errr there is still a massive problem in all this....no arena that is up to NBA standards
I think the idea is that we're trying to find sufficient funding to build one. Such funding will necessarily become more difficult to find if the Kings bolt, of course. And if Taylor/ICON fails, the Kings will definitely be gone in a year, even if they're not gone now.
It's not like we haven't been paying attention.
