Who knew?

Ok, it's time to...

...have the miss-shooting dude review the films of his college days (with the help of some basketball fundamentals expert) in order to compare the shooting fundamentals of then (presumably good) to now, which is, obviously, bad.

Something's got to be different now. It is vital to discover this, then correct it. If it is corrected, then the miss-shooting dude has a chance to improve his game to the point of not being a detriment to the Kings. Otherwise, he's gonna lose his starting position.

I think that coach T is starting him and playing him a lot to, possibly, allow the minutes to coax back out the dude's hidden shooting skills.

The difference is not hard to discern -- he was in college playing against 6'7" centers who are now accountants. Now he is in the pros playing against people his own size, stronger, faster etc.

But note that this guy led the league in FG% last year. The reason? Wide open shots. He can hit them consistently. Has not so far this year, may get back to it. That's the extent of his "talent" -- same talent that guy who goes down to shoot at the park everyday has. But if you have a tremendous player getting Mikki wide open shots, or if you put him in a college setting where everybody is so short/slow compared ot him that he can get them himself, he can hit those shots.

Standard deviation shooting analysis useful?

I see--thanks, Bricklayer.

So does anyone think that it's possible to get a good coach--like the Princeton "Coachie", who helped correct Kevin's shooting fundamentals--to help Mikki to attempt to learn to shoot in heavy traffic with a higher % of accuracy?

Or is it that Mikki is not athletic enough to make those last-minute shooting adjustments that are needed in game-time traffic? Perhaps it's not realistic to expect Mikki's heavy traffic % to approach Kevin's, at least Mikki could raise his heavy-traffic shooting % a bit, I think.

Does anyone know the average/mean differential of the game-time shooting % for most athletes in most positions with the open-shot-shooting %, compared to the in-heavy-traffic shooting %? One could use this kind of stat to measure Mikki's differential and see if it's beyond or within one standard deviation from the mean of the differential % between the heavy-traffic shots and the wide-open shots, I suppose.

Wonderful find!

Yes, Mikki had the luck of having someone of tremendous skills feed him but my question has to do with his hands. If he could catch a pass from Kidd, why can't he catch passes to him now? It's really a bit mystifying and of course aggravating.

I was awful at basketball but at least could catch the darn ball. I couldn't see the court well for some reason.

I like jordans game (as you all have read in my 'who do I want to draft next year' posts). I think he could probably come in and play some PF next to Hawes. I wouldn't waste a top 3 on him, but if we drafted somewhere around 10 again than I would definitely think about it!

This is very true...last year he had several games where he only missed one or two shots out of 10-12 attempts in a game. He even had several perfect games in which he was doing more than just dunking.

Why? Because Vince Carter passed it to him A LOT out of double teams. Moreover, Kidd managed to keep connecting on alley-oops with him. So yeah, he needs to be open.

The end point is...Moore is a good finisher...if nothing else, he can do that. That might not sound like much but good finishers are rarer than people realize. So I am not surprised to hear he had that record.
