Which is better for the Kings?

Bibby opting out or not?

Is Bibby an unrestricted FA if he opts out?
yes i think so. it help us with the rebuilding process if thats the direction we're going. would be even better if we can trade him for some young talent or picks

If he opts out thats great, but hes not dumb. There is no team in the league thats gonna pay him 14 mil for a year. Hes good but not 14 mil good.

i think the only reason he would opt out is to look for a long term deal. if he can get 10 mil a year for 5-6 years, thats better than his current contract.

Agreed. Bibby + Webber under Adelman was a situation where the whole was greater than the sum of the parts. And Bibby and Webber got contracts based on the whole. By himself, he's not worth $171,000 per game, so he'll only leave if the playing environment is so miserable that he'd take a big pay cut just to get away from it. With a FA market which we're not likely to be able to exploit, I'd hope, should Bibby flee, that the Maloofs would use some of the reduced cost of operations to pay for a new coach. Sure, Mo Williams would be great, but there are going to be a lot of teams after him.

On the other hand, if we draft the next Webber and replace the coach before he has to decide this summer, I'm sure he'd want to stay, and we might end up not minding that he did.

But all I can allow myself to expect is that we wind up with a mediocre draft position, that the Maloofs taste for crow is not enough to get them to replace the coach, and that Bibby sticks around and goes through the motions only because of the money. And this possibility is probably the biggest reason there are so many rumors that he is on the trading block -- it's definitely not an appealing prospect.

you wanna know the saddest thing about that? if he actually tried a little he might be worth $14 million

The thing is Bibby has another opt out clause NEXT off-season as well as this off-season. I think if he were to opt out of the current deal, he'd have to have one FLURRY of an ending to THIS season, or more likely he'll come back next season and look to improve his stock for next off-season and secure a long term deal at that point.
