When Do We Blow It Up?

We are only above the blazers,Jazz, and pels. I feel like we never really did a rebuild and if this team doesn’t improve drastically I say we need to aim for a rebuild.

There's a terminally online set of fans like most of us who can understand the meta of what OKC and Philly did (incidentally Philly's results have not been worth it, OKC - well the first time they did it they were in Seattle and now they aren't, and the second time it's looking good but they still don't get national TV games and have players crying the same way our fanbase and some players do... so?)...

Anyhow, there's a bunch of fans who just go to games and watch and expect to have better than a coin flip chance of winning when they go to the games and they would never stand for this.

Also, I think a tear down and multi-year rebuild would just further cement us digging a hole we never get out of.

One counter to hrdboild though: 12th best NetRtg might not mean much if 9 of the best 12 are in the West. I don't know if it works that way, but there's maybe 3 good teams in the East right now? Cleveland, Celtics and possibly the Bucks based on the Emirates run of form but that's being generous?

Maybe one day we will blow it up, but not the day after losing a 1 point game to the Nuggets without our only two wings who are taller than 6'7". As others have mentioned, our analytics suggest we are a better team than our record. We have been awful in close games, which is at least in part due to the newness of adding Demar and the injuries to important rotation pieces. We have been much better since the awful Spurs loss, going 4-2, with both losses (@ Memphis and vs. Denver) being games we probably should have won, but for some of the late game issues that are likely the result of roster turnover, unfamiliarity, and injuries.

We aren't the Lebron Heat, but this is the obligatory reminder that even that "super team" started 9-12 because it was hard for the new pieces to blend. I would rather give us a chance to get healthy and get Demar more settled with playing with actual rotation guys. While I appreciate guys like Colby and Isaac stepping up, those reps aren't helping Demar get comfortable with playing with guys like Keegan, Lyles, Huerter and Monk, who are actual rotation players who have missed time.

I would like to see what a healthy rotation of Domas-Keegan-Demar-Monk-Fox- Huerter- Keon-Lyles can do. I would like to see how Carter fits in. DO we need more wing depth? Absolutely. But we are not a "blow it up" team.

How many years during the crap seasons would we have been stoked to root for this exact team? And Monte hasn’t even made his big draft capital trade yet. This season has been frustrating - but this team might only be one or two rotation upgrades away from making some real noise.

I think this is it...we are not a bad team. We have pieces to potentially be upper half of the playoff teams. I think it will take a series of aggressive moves to fill out the roster, but it definitely can be done mid-season (see Dallas last year). I'm not necessarily looking for a big swing for the fence move... but significant roll player additions that can fill out the bench. In my mind, our starters are fine. We need 3 more rotation players off the bench.

lol at this thread……getting to that goal of winning a playoff series or 2, then the championship is not a straight linear line going always upward. There is a whole lot of all over the place, up and down, forward and back line. Still think this team is going to go on a run if we can stay healthy

That is pretty much the situation. I still take comfort that many of those West contenders we're trailing have significant injury risks tied to aging core players. If we can be patient enough to wait out the GSW, Lakers, Suns, and Clippers fading playoff windows we'll find ourselves at our peak soon(ish) and facing teams like Minnesota, OKC, Memphis, Houston, Denver, and Dallas who we've generally played well against -- aside from the last 5 minutes. This is the time to learn from our mistakes though and figure out how to close out games, not in March and April.

Our starting 5 is legit, and we'd have a much better record if Keegan and Kevin didn't shoot like complete dog dookie the first month of the season.

Issues with depth and size remain but I still think we can make the playoffs this season. I'm not sure if we can make it past the 1st round, but whatever, our core is still fairly young so we have a decent window.

Vivek would never allow a full rebuild anyways so this thread is a moot point.

As is my contention every single time one of these threads come up, the guys posting the most about blowing it up would immediately become the guys screaming the loudest about how blowing it up was a mistake.

I agree with this. Especially with the new CBA and the fact that we are still relatively not completely screwed if we had to move a major piece, tearing things down may not net near the rewards past tear downs have done and the impact on the common fan could be a deathblow.

There are also a bunch of fans who just go to games and would like to experience a 2nd round play-off series. It’s not clear to me this group of players can accomplish it at this point and I realize losing Fox for nothing would set this franchise back a long way.

I don’t blow it up now but asking when is not unreasonable.

The point I am trying to make is that while people who buy tickets and attend games in Sacramento are not the majority of us even, it is important beyond anything else to make and keep them happy for the team to thrive as The Sacramento Kings. I am sure those people would take 41-0 at home and missing the playoffs over a 52 win team that made the second round but was .500 at home.

This is mostly a thought exercise. But doesn't change the fact that a rebuild basically means we go back to a below .333 record for a few years and there is basically no point to attend the games. At all.

I buy tickets and attend games.

And no I would rather make the second round and be .500 at home though your hypothetical seems unlikely.

As for going back to a below a .333 record I would rather have the hope of being a contender at some point than knowing we plan to muddle along forever. I would have happily changed places with almost every other fan base in the western conference.

Curious how others who have or share season tickets feel.

one thing that I’ve learned is that winning a championship doesn’t make your life better as a fan. Both my Eagles and Cubs finally won one and most of the fan base of those respective organizations are back to wanting coaches and GMs fired and players traded a couple years after they take the title. The high doesn’t last. I want the kings to win a title but I enjoy the process of every season even if it’s stress inducing. What I don’t want is instability, constant coaching carousel, new regimes etc.

If we do a “rebuild” it’s just going to be Fox traded imo. We will still have Sabonis, Keegan, Monk and more plus all the draft picks and young players we could get back in a deal. I’d still tune in for that team if it ever comes to be.
