What was your favorite moment in sports in 2008?

Win your division and don't worry about being the odd man out on the wild card. End of story on that one. I guess it sucks to get tie broken out of both, but whatever, they were 1-4 against AFC playoff teams. Their only impressive win was the Arizona win which didn't look impressive at the time.

Anyhow, the Pats also have Kevin O'Connell waiting in the wings if Brady can't go and Cassel is gone. 6'6", 235, strong arm and can run. 4 year captain of his college squad. Just something to think about: Brady was drafted in the 6th round, Cassell was picked in the 7th as a flyer. O'Connell was picked in the 3rd with both of them already established on the roster. If heaven forbid Brady is out next season and O'Connell is the only option he will have had the same amount of time in the Pats system as Brady did when he took over in 2001.

That's especially relevant if Belichick can get a good set of picks for Cassell.

If they get offered a high second or a first I'd venture Cassel is good as gone. With Bradford and Sanchez likely to stick around in the NCAA another year there will be some takers. Then they sign a vet backup QB just in case Brady can't go and O'C isn't ready mentally.

Cassel's stock is never going to be higher than it is now unless he starts a full season and goes deep in the playoffs. Buy low, sell high. And in this case nobody will feel slighted.

Remarkably, there's not as many teams looking for a starting quarterback right now as there have been in years past. (Chicago, San Fran, Detroit, Minny, possibly Houston, KC and Oakland, depending.) I think the Pats getting a third rounder would be sweet, given they drafted him in the seventh. I could see a couple teams putting together a multi-pick package for Cassel, but it's like you said, his stock is as high as it's ever going to be, assuming Brady comes back.

If they can get a second and a fifth, or a third and fourth, that should be a done deal. I doubt they'd get a second, though.

Man, it's hard to choose one. The Phelps fingernail win was cool, but the relay where his anchorman ate up the field to give him gold is somewhere above that race for me. Bolt's runs were up there. Kara Lawson's play to lead the USA Women to gold.

But my year got started with the Giants win over the Pats and essentially ended with the Rays (and their "barely looks a day over 16 years old" closer ) knocking the Red Sox out of the ALCS. Anything that happened in between those two ended up being gravy.
