yeah maybe there is some fungible flexibility if you waive everyone who is a FA but then you're like LAL or one of those other teams that decided to build around 2-3 megastars and comes up short in the depth department. I'm not sure we can overcome the disadvantages of being a perpetual 6-8 seed that those teams do by load managing and relying on star whistles.

At some point you just have to operate the mindset of how to operate above the cap and always be reloading and then be ready/willing to completely tear down when its over.

Why in the world would Brooklyn trade Bridges for Davion and Huerter?

I’m right back in the trade Davion camp after he was deemed bad enough on offense to not be used in games 6 & 7 but we have to be realistic about what we get back.
 
Brooklyn isn’t going to trade Mikal Bridges. Might as well forget about that.
Wondering if we attach the early second round pick to Richuan Holmes in a deal to clear out his salary……to do that Monte would have to have a player in mind to acquire in free agency with the new cap space or in a trade.

I think there are some low level deals out there with the few assets we have to move. I don’t think Davion by himself brings back much but I’m not sure I want to deal Davion either with his D but give him a chance to improve his shooting like Fox did.
 
The Jamal suggested trading Davion Mitchell for Herbert Jones. That trade seems fair, and the Kings may not have to add picks.

Fox / Monk
Huerter / Davis
Herbert / Barnes
Murray / Lyles
Sabonis / Naz Reid?

In fact, why would they trade Bridges at all?

They are setup for the future with a bunch of picks and young guys they picked in the trade for Irving and Durant. He is one of the most promising young stars, and by all accounts, a high character guy. There is no reason to trade him for an established star, since the latter will command a higher salary, have a shorter peak period, and won't want to be part of a rebuilding effort.

You are trying to get rid of pieces, MAIN PIECES, which just took our team to the first playoff trip in a LONG TIME and personally, if we beat the Warriors we would be in the finals tonight because we own the Lakers.. So you would take a team one win away from the finals on the first team that has done well in a long long time and remove the starting SG who makes on average close to three 3py shots a game while shooting 40% from 3pt? Also, trade the only good backup PG we have who can sub for Fox when he's out and give us a guy that knows the playbook? And let Barnes go? Barnes is the only starter I trust at the FT line with the game on the line. Not to mention a close to 40% shooter from 3pt..

So basically you want to remove pretty much 60% of our 3pt shooting from the starting lineup.

We need to hold off on making any kind of move that would let Monk, Mitchell, Lyles, Murray, Hueter, Barnes, Fox and Sabonis go.

Do whatever you want with the people below those top 8 players. TD, and Holmes have a little bit of trade value, but I don't want to make any drastic move after the first year breaking the playoff curse. Especially getting rid of players that contribute most to our 3pt shooting like Barnes and Hueter. No thank you.

It's possible, but this is a different Lakers team post deadline. The Lakers were one of the few other teams without much if any size on the wing. Not so much now.
 
I've been seeing more and more bubbling about Randle possibly being gettable in NY. Wonder if a Davion/filler/picks package could get something done? You know Thibs would love Davion. Randle and Domas = see you in the playoffs Draymond.

This Lakers team is going to look extremely different next season... again.

Vandy can't even get on the floor for them, Reaves is probably playing himself into a 20mil/season contract, DLO is just bad, they won't be able to afford Rui. So while they did a great job at the deadline, I wouldn't be surprised if all their acquisitions aren't here next year.

The advantage here is we'd acquire Vandy's bird rights so we could go over the cap to sign him to whatever deal because he was on a 3 year contract.

I'll believe LeBron gets what he wants until he doesn't. Oddly enough they kind of have flexibility this summer. With their success I think they'll just blow cap to bring it back. Is Russell getting a 30 million plus deal from someone? Hopefully. Is Reaves getting 20 million a year? Hopefully, lol. Rui, we'll have to see.

My guess is Bron and the Lakers can't help themselves and they'll go make a run at Kyrie or a Khris Middleton type and ignore the rest of the roster. Even though them getting a real supporting cast around AD and Bron is why they've made this run.

Couple things come in mind...

1. Trading #24 would be an awful move unless we get a clear upgrade. This is a very good and deep draft class. We can get a 19/20-year-old prospect who can contribute day 1 on a rookie scale controlled contract for the next 4 years... there's no reason to trade our pick unless it's part of a bigger trade to net us a good starter.

2. Vandy isn't worth #24. He's the same player in Utah and they didn't fetch a 1st round pick for him at the deadline. I don't see the Lakers getting one either.

Obviously a bit challenging since it’s a draft rights situation and prospective teams don’t know who will be available at 24. It would likely end up being a situation where player x is not in our trade partners long term plans.

I’d be curious to see examples of previous draft rights trades that are of a similar situation

It's hard to say what the true value pieces were in that trade but an LA first was involved for sure and it did go to the Jazz. If someone like GG Jackson was at 24 then maybe you balk, doubtful he will be, but overall a player that can pretty much defend 4-5 positions is the only way to actually improve a team this bad on defense without having to start shuffling offensive players out of your rotation for defensive ones. A defender that versatile is the easiest way without creating issues. That in itself has a ton of value.

This is where those package deals get interesting. 24, some youth, and future picks can be put together on draft night. Watch them just send it to the Hawks to get that deal over with haha.

I would do that.

But if given the choice, I would prefer to swap #24 for Herbert Jones... cause I feel that Herb fits better in starting lineups (or there are less situations where he will be "unplayabale" because he can shoot a little better, is more comfortable dribbling with the ball, and a little better at driving or cutting to the rim).
 
There is a ton of Herb Jones talk around here, is he available? Is this just a wish list, because I don't know where it's coming from.
