Watson to Seattle: 3 team deal?

WATSON to Seattle?

Marc Stein/ESPN - Earl Watson has been the subject of trade rumors for many weeks and has been offered to multiple teams.

A trade finally appears close, though nothing has been finalized.

The Sonics are the likely destination, who have been interested in the point guard for quite some time.

Stein says that a deal for Reggie Evans, Flip Murray and Vitaly Potapenko has been discussed the most.

Sonics could finally get the back-up PG that got away from them, and have been looking for all season.

That sounds a little more fair. The difference between that deal and one for Bonzi is monumental. To go from Bonzi Wells to Flip Murray is a big difference.

Seattle Post-Intelligencer - It may be no coincidence that Reggie Evans, Vitaly Potapenko and Flip Murray didn’t play in last night’s Seattle win over the Atlanta Hawks , with all three possibly being involved in deals.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is reporting that Murray and Potapenko could be Denver bound for guard Earl Watson, whose name has been included in rumors since the moment he signed a five year contract with the Nuggets this past offseason. Evans could be included in a separate deal.

Since both Evans and Murray are one year bird players, they have the right to veto any deal. Should they agree to a trade they lose their bird rights, meaning any team who acquires them that is over the cap will be limited to what they can offer contractually next season. This, however, doesn’t appear to be an issue for Evans who has already requested a trade.

Potapenko, who requested a trade two months ago, has accepted his fate.

"It's a business," he said. "I don't take anything personal. I understand that other teams may need me more than the Sonics. I have been traded before."

Three-way deal brings Watson to Sonics

ESPN.com news services

The Seattle SuperSonics have reached an agreement on a three-way trade that will bring guard Earl Watson back to the Sonics, who drafted him in 2001, ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports.

The deal, which is expected to be announced later Thursday, sends Seattle forward Reggie Evans and Portland swingman Ruben Patterson to the Nuggets.
Portland, in its ongoing quest for salary-cap relief, was eager to part with Patterson and acquire Denver guard Voshon Lenard (whose contract expires at season's end) and Seattle center Vitaly Potapenko (who has only one season left on his contract).
The Sonics also receive a future second-round pick from Denver in the deal, which has been sent to the league office for official approval.

Jesus ..the way the way they wrote that is confusing as hell. Didn't even mention Early Watson in the full breakdown of the deal. So, let me get this straight:

Denver sends Earl to the Sonics.

The Blazers send Rueben Patterson to the Nuggets.

Denver sends Voshon Lenard to Portland

Did Portland get Potapenko?? Or did Denver get him.

The Sonics received a 2nd round pick from Denver

Damn, great deal for Denver! Patterson is a great versatile spark off the bench, and Evans is a really good hustler player and rebounder. Charles Smith is a good shooter too, kind of like a younger Vo Lenard.

Seattle finally gets their man that got away, and back-up PG in Watson. Gets rid of a couple guys who didn't fit anymore as well.

Portland gets a veteran big and a vet. shooter

Except under the basket, where they score their points.

Also, if you've watched a number of Sonics games where Reggie's played a lot, he has somehwhat of an effective post-game now. Also interesting was he was actually their #1 option down low vs. the Pacers a couple times. It's not great or anything, but it deserves mention.

I just heard on our local sports radio that Sacramento is also in this trade, so this is a 4 team deal. I couldn't catch the details and unfortunately I don't have any links. I think things will be clearer in the afternoon.

Oh, by the way, Flip Murray goes to Cleveland for Mike Wilks according to the radio. I don't know the details on that one as well.

I am not much of help, huh :)

Wilks is a decent third-string PG, can play defense, and is quick. Won a ring with the Spurs last year. Flip makes Cleveland deeper.
