Warriors-Kings

G-League
This is an interesting one that came to my mind. I don't know if I would do it myself, but it seems to me to be an available option. So why not bring it up.

Sacramento sends:
John Salmons
Beno Udrih

Warriors send:
Correy Maggette
Brandon Wright
Marcus Williams
1st round pick (top 10 protected, next year top 3 restricted, next year unrestricted)

Why the Warriors do it:
Most importantly, to get rid of Maggette by any means. The Warriors realized that they made a mistake when he stepped off the plane in Oakland. Wright has yet to make any impression with Nelson and has been brought up as possibly expendable. Salmons and Beno have long expensive contacts, but getting rid of Maggette would save Oakland about 15million long term. Moving Maggette will only be less likely later.

Salmons actually might benefit well in Nelsons system and Beno would provide at least the skills of a true point guard to take the pressure off Monte.

Why the Kings do it:
Wright and a 1st round lottery pick. Would Maggette be a disaster for the Kings? Possibly. Would he kill any hope of attracting a super star free agent? Probably. None the less, the Kings draft position would look great in the next couple years while we wait for Miller and Thomas to expire.

Why the Warriors don't do it:
Giving a 1st rounder and Wright to a division rival? That's a pretty hard pill to swallow in order to save money.

Why the Kings don't do it:
Because at some point someone at the warriors would have to tell Petrie that Maggette would be included in the deal. Most GMs would hang up the phone at that point.

I doubt they want Maggette off the team bad enough to give up an eventual really high lotto pick and Brandan Wright.

Interesting idea, as I would do it for the assets that we acquire and because I don't believe that Udrih's contract is that much better than Magette's.
Magette can also be a good starter on a contending team.
Martin as our 2nd option, with Magette and Hawes as 3rd options would be pretty nice. All were missing is that 1st option, which I am hoping would come through the draft.
Jennings? :)

Not sure about the Warriors though, but they do need a true PG, and Salmons would be a great replacement for Magette.

Salmons has 3 years and roughly 15 million left on his contract. Beno has roughly 5 years and 25 million on his contract. Magette has a staggering 5 years and 50 million on his contract. That's a terrible contract for someone that does not fit with your current team. 10 million savings is huge regardless of whether you are a billionaire or not, especially when your team isn't competing for anything.

Honestly I think Salmons would do well in Nelsons system. Even better than now with the Kings. He runs the floor well, plays multiple positions, and finishes with the best on the fast break. Salmons struggles more in half-court play when he dribbles too much. Since most half-court play goes through Monte (ideally) in Oakland, Salmons won't slow the offense down.

Beno may not be the best point guard the Warriors have had, but he is a true point guard with all the skills needed. I'm not a coach, so I can't be the judge whether Nelson could make Beno into a better player. His 3pt shot would need vast improvement with the system though.

I think the big question comes down to the draft pick from the Warriors. The Kings need more than just Wright to make the trade fair, but a high pick in the 1st round might be too much to give up. Marcus Williams would help the deal, but maybe instead the Kings could ask for another young player to spice up the deal.

So maybe the deal could go as such:
Kings send:
Beno Udrih
John Salmons

Warriors send:
Correy Magette
Brandon Wright
CJ Watson

You've already answered what I was going to say - much like the Baron Davis/Clip's trades that have been posted no way no how do I want either of those two older high contract guards on our team... Even with some upside - we're finally getting rid of the overpaid players I'd hate to jump back into another one on such a long deal...

Sounds like Monta is mad. Not that the forcing of the PG in a SG body really works, yet a two team attack of Ellis and Martin would be pretty awesome.

Why do we want that when at least KT is expiring for 2010?

Everyone in the league has space for 2010...I think that offseason is going to be a huge disappointment for anyone with high hopes (ie: GP and the Maloofs).

That trade would give us a huge stable of young bigs with great potential.

Hawes, Thompson, and then you add Wright and Randolph? At least one of those guys is going to be a legit starter one day.

Of course if we did that it would be absolutely necessary to clear out both Mikki AND Miller. It's the only way all those kids will get the time needed to grow and get better.

I like it though.
