This is an interesting one that came to my mind. I don't know if I would do it myself, but it seems to me to be an available option. So why not bring it up.
Sacramento sends:
John Salmons
Beno Udrih
Warriors send:
Correy Maggette
Brandon Wright
Marcus Williams
1st round pick (top 10 protected, next year top 3 restricted, next year unrestricted)
Why the Warriors do it:
Most importantly, to get rid of Maggette by any means. The Warriors realized that they made a mistake when he stepped off the plane in Oakland. Wright has yet to make any impression with Nelson and has been brought up as possibly expendable. Salmons and Beno have long expensive contacts, but getting rid of Maggette would save Oakland about 15million long term. Moving Maggette will only be less likely later.
Salmons actually might benefit well in Nelsons system and Beno would provide at least the skills of a true point guard to take the pressure off Monte.
Why the Kings do it:
Wright and a 1st round lottery pick. Would Maggette be a disaster for the Kings? Possibly. Would he kill any hope of attracting a super star free agent? Probably. None the less, the Kings draft position would look great in the next couple years while we wait for Miller and Thomas to expire.
Why the Warriors don't do it:
Giving a 1st rounder and Wright to a division rival? That's a pretty hard pill to swallow in order to save money.
Why the Kings don't do it:
Because at some point someone at the warriors would have to tell Petrie that Maggette would be included in the deal. Most GMs would hang up the phone at that point.
