Look people, we get it. Vivek hasn’t been a good owner sans helping to keep the team in SAC and ensuring the new arena was built — which on its own could easily be argued as greater than anything the likes of Dolan and Sarver have ever done.
Vivek has also endeared himself to players, coaches, and staff for how the KINGS have dealt with social justice issues.
Where Vivek has been awful through at least last season is hiring the right basketball people and allowing them to run the basketball operations. But does 7 years of that warrant worst in the league?
Absolutely not. Many of these other guys have a big head start on him.

I haven’t read one person defend Vivek as good or even average owner. Acknowledging that there are worse owners — which this rankings list was all about — doesn’t somehow mean folks have forgotten all the wrong he’s done in 7+ years.
My "defense" of Vivek is primarily that I think he has the potential to be a good owner and not just an invisible one. Where as Dolan, Gilbert and some others have shown no ability to learn from their mistakes or just flat out don't care, they will never rise above the "worst 5 owners list" (again, had last season turned out differently, Vivek is not #1, so to me that's disingenuous and just punching a down franchise).
I think he is thirsty for winning and not just hosting his other business associates at a game. Like say the Maloofs wanted to make the flash Kings part of their overall brand of this party casino family because they got bored of the other family business that was less flashy but steadily paid the bills.

If you are going to use playoffs as the standard, then you MUST handicap him for the financial concessions he had to make to purchase and keep the team in Sacramento. That handicap would take him out of last place. The article didn't use that standard and while the analysis of Vivek, the owner, might be spot on, his placement as worst is questionable. Close to last for his complete body of work prior to this off season is probably more accurate.

Yes I am. I have my let my very unfavorable views of him be known. I don't trust him.
Despite the fact he may be so brilliant that he's an idiot, I have hope for him. Mark Cuban, another IT guru, started his tenure as owner as a complete joke. He is now listed as one of the best five according to this so called survey. He is highly regarded irregardless. Can Vivek stay out of his own way and be in the top half? Possibly, but he has a lot of his own doing to live down first. What's that saying, winning cures everything?

I appreciate everything Vivek was a part of and us getting a new arena ect. Other than that he hasnt been a very good owner and some people say that in a salary cap sport ownership is a big competitive advantage. I like the first step he made. After he made (one of) the worst GM hires in the past decade (or longer) with Vlade, he hired a professional firm to do the search. Hopefully it means that Vivek is willing to trust high level, analytics oriented and experienced Nba front office people and himself is taking a step back. Of course thats just the first step but the most important step at the moment.
Ownership being a huge competitive advantage means a lot of things. For example its how much money the owner(s) are willing to spend on departments like analytics, scouting and training ect. For example: does the owner want our scouting or analytics department to be the biggest or the cheapest in the league. Simply said: willingess to gain any smallest competitive advantage compared to other teams by spending money to get better on every level of the organisation. When the team is competitive the big thing will be wether the owner is willing to pay the tax and how much.
If someone has info on how big are our different departements throughout the organisation compared to other teams, I would gladly take a look at those numbers. If we assume that Vivek is willing to step back now, then its a lot considering him being hands on (for example hiring Vlade) has cost this franchise a lot. If he stays back and is willing to spend money, he will be far from one of the worst in this type of polls.

Those are good questions. Ownership. One of the things that has concerned me is the fractured Ownership. He controls the team while not owning a majority share. I have no idea how the Ownership agreement is structured. Cash calls and the repercussions if there's a refusal to pay. Does that give him an opportunity to purchase the minority owners share and at what rate? What if there is a revolt by the majority of the minority owners? The politics behind the scenes could be very nasty. Atlanta's former Ownership arrangement comes to mind. That was ugly and drawn out.
There very well could be constraints that are hidden behind the curtains. Who knows if his changes are because of things going on behind the scenes. There have been rumblings before of unhappiness among the minority owners.
But if I'm totally off base with those concerns and hope I am, your questions are very valid and pertinent.

He’s been the lead owner for 7 years. Again, not the longest track record of suckitude compared to several of the others.
And, last I checked, he doesn’t get into petty tiffs with former star players and hardcore celebrity fans.

Your argument is really poor. Because the other end of the spectrum of the argument is the Ricky Bobby theory that “if you’re not first, your last”.
If your not the best owner/team then 2nd, 3rd, 4th, even middle of the pack doesn’t matter.
While I take issue with Vivek over many things, I wouldn’t even have him bottom 5.
Again, he’s only been responsible for 7 seasons. And while the team hasn’t made the playoffs in the stacked West, they’ve come close and been a 30-40 win team. Would have cracked 40 had Joerger not been trying to make some kind of meaningless point.
Then you have the fact most player’s that have played for the franchise since 2013 and specifically more recently have had good things to say about the org. There’s a decent culture in place. And the player’s appreciate the org’s attention to and involvement in social causes. There are many owners where that’s not the case. Also, Vivek has shown a willingness to pay players like Boogie, Buddy and Swipa, which is not always the case with cheaper owners.
Again, the basketball decisions on the whole haven’t been good. But a lot more factors into it than that.
Vivek is really nowhere close to the worst. It’s really laughable to believe otherwise. Shows a lot of bias IMO.

Its been 7 years since he saved the team from moving? Im starting to think that will always save his a** from being considered one of the worst owners is sports.
Now as an outsider, it is quite painful to see what sacramento fans accept as NBA talent and ownership. Maybe if the kings weren't the only game in town it would be different.

Sacramento fans don't own the team so I'm not quite sure where you're coming from when you say it's painful to see what us fans accept as NBA talent and ownership. Nearly every thread on here is littered with people complaining about it in one manner or another.
