Update on Quacy Barnes

In keeping with my ongoing "project" of finding the current activities of former Monarchs, here is some recent news about Quacy Barnes, who played one season with the Monarchs in 1998. She later spent two seasons with the Seattle Storm, and one season with the Phoenix Mercury.

She was an assistant coach at her alma mater, Indiana University, for two years. And more recently, she was named an assistant coach for the women's b-ball team at Austin Peay State University, located in Clarksville, Tenn.

Goodness gracious, when they listed all the places she had played after leaving the Monarchs, I had no recollection of her being in any of those places. Didn't she go to Cleveland in the Blodgett deal?

That is correct. According to her WNBA Player Profile (yes, it is still up there if you do a name search on the WNBA website), she was traded to the Cleveland Rockers just before the 1999 season began, but she did not make the opening-day roster. Apparently, the Rockers waived her during training camp. So, I don't know what she did in '99, but my guess is that she played overseas.

In 2000, she was chosen by the then-new Seattle Storm expansion team.
