Up-tempo worked for us tonight

Maybe this is why I have not been too upset with the Malone firing. I am not sure that he was the best coach we have had in years. Maybe he was? I don't know.

Maybe you missed a few other people calling you out on this statement so I bolded it for you. Who was a better coach we've had since adelman? Better yet name a former kings coach who was just on par with Malone? Apparently you must have someone in mind.

Kenny Natt obviously.

Maybe this is why I have not been too upset with the Malone firing. I am not sure that he was the best coach we have had in years. Maybe he was? I don't know. What feel confident about though is this is the most talent the Kings have had in years. This is by far and away the primary reason that we got off to the better start. Maybe the team was winning in spite of Malone? And by the way, the new FO regime is the reason why we have more talent now.

Our playoff chances took a hit because of a virus.

You're only paying attention to one half of the game then. Is Malone the best offensive coach we've had in years? Nope. Is he the best defensive coach we've had in years? Absolutely, by a long shot.

I keep saying this. Accountability, accountability, accountability. The team has no one to hold them accountable on defense right now so they just aren't going to play it. Defense is no fun, it's tiring and it's not as rewarding as splashing down a 3 or getting a big dunk. If the coach doesn't make defense the #1 or #2 priority, you aren't going to win basketball games. As of right now, defense is at the bottom of the priority list for this team. You don't see PDA and Vivek making statements about tightening up on defense. They will simply continue to not play D and lose because they don't have a guy like Mike Malone to hold them accountable.

It's not just the firing of Malone. It's firing a coach that had a plan and replacing him with an interim coach that has none. It's an organization saying they have a plan but don't have the personnel or the coach to implement it. How would you feel as a player if your gm gave up on a season due to some vague pipe dream of how he wants the team to be and admits that the personnel currently won't be able to achieve it?

Stop saying it's just firing Malone. It's firing Malone without bringing in another real coach with a game plan that's destroyed this team.

Fix the defense.

The forum reminds me of the old joke about the guy that lost his watch. His friend asked him where he lost it. He said down the street. Why are looking here? "The light is better here" he replied.

Posters on the forum are looking in the wrong place.

We all agree to fix the defense matter fact I think 99% of us would rehire Malone yesterday so I don't think we are looking in the wrong place. It's more like we know that the FO wants none of that

Agree with op. Vivek and PDA had a vision and it's finally coming to fruition. Malone was a good man, and a successful assistant but his kind of ball is dead. It doesn't work in the NBA now, and it's terrifying to think how his obsolete vision of coaching would have on this young team in the future.

Yeah, great vision. If you like losing every way possible.

I agree that defense should be the number one priority, but I don't see how that's exclusive with Mike Malone coaching.

I'm not sure what you expect. You can't learn an entirely new system in days. Malone had months of training camp and preseason to implement his system. Why not give Corbin/PDA the same benefit?

Sorry but I'm not about to rehash weeks of arguments for you. Try reading some of the threads from the past three weeks and get a feel for the various posters and you'll be in a much better position to understand where a lot of us are coming from.

I have read, but I disagree. I think us king fans are being to hasty. Even teams like the spurs realize they can't play brutal slow basketball anymore. Adapt or die.

The Kings were adapting. They were FINALLY playing some defense. And it was leading to better offense.

I actually think that there is some data out there that points to this in fact. That is, there are typically 2-3 coaches in the league that are so good they can win a few extra games for you and on the other end there are 2-3 coaches that are so bad they can actually lose some games for you. However, the vast majority are in the middle and do not make too much of a difference either way.

Malone was part of the middle pack, so why blow a head casket over the firing?
because morale and chemistry exist

No, that was talent. Let this talent learn the new system and really excel.

OMG. And what, pray tell, is this miracle "new system" of which you speak? Was it on display last night? I'd really like to know.

No it wasn't. There were flashes but it wasn't were we want to be. It's going to be a process.

I'm fairly certain we have a paid shill in our ranks.

Not sure of his paid status, but he's certainly making all the right talking points - or trying to. Unfortunately for him, he (or she, now that I think about it) doesn't have the panache to pull it off.

The "paid" part was me giving the benefit of the doubt.

My New Year's resolution was to work on being kind.
