UEFA Champions League

Well, I don't know how many of you here follow European club football, but it doesn't get any better than this. Two of the best teams in Europe at the moment (Chelsea vs Barcelona) played a smashing game this evening. Chelsea won 4:2 (5:4 on aggregate) and are in the quarterfinals. It was a very dramatic game with lots of beautiful moves and goals. Both teams had a chance to win, but a John Terry goal sealed the deal. It's a shame that Barcelona was eliminated so early in the competition (I love watching Ronaldinho), but that's football. Oh well, they have La Liga to worry about now. Too bad Mateja Kezman didn't score, but he had two passes, so that's great too.

I don't know if anyone will check this post out, but I think a great game like this deserves a mention.

It was a nice game especially in the first half.

The second goal by Ronaldinho was worth paying the ticket. WOW

I watched the game and let me tell you... that game and tonights Kings game was too much for my heart to handle in one day :)

Chelsea played great. 3 goals in 19 minutes without Robben and Drogba. Kezman is slowly hitting form and although he didn't score he definately made an impact on the game. Too bad he got that yellow card and will have to miss their next game. Hopefully he can keep scoring like he did in last 2 games before this one.

Ronaldinho - Big mouth got what he deserved......he said that no English clubs would reach the next round. It's ironic that he would get knocked out.....

So Chelsea and Liverpool are in the quarter finals.

Next year my team Everton will be in the Champions League.

Wow, Real Madrid CF just crashed out of the Champions League.

That is because most have nothing better to watch. Take America for instance, we have a wide variety of sports. Soccer does not get watched because Americans have found more exciting sports.

If you think football is not exciting that is your opinion and you have every right not to like it. But let's face it, football is the most popular sport in the world.

I played 10 or so years of competitive soccer, but I have to admit, it is awefully hard to watch. Ill take American football and basketball.

Double E. Can we keep on topic please:) I love soccer and find it just as watchable as basketball. It is a matter of preference and not ignorance.

What an ignorant statement.

I have also "found" basketball, etc. long time ago and still prefer watching soccer over it. In fact, I find any other "American" sport very boring (see baseball, football & hockey).

Double E, its a matter of what you grow up with. Face it Soccer is not really televise except for MLS during the summer here. You have to bought up in the culture.
If you think Kings Fans are passionate about their team, times it about 1000 and you get a Soccer fan that loves their club or country. Soccer is life to many fans. You get thousands of fans that travel to other countries to watch their team play.
If I was to get one tattoo it would be of my Soccer club.

Manchester United are the World most expensive sports team in the world. They are valued over 1 billion dollars. There is a bitter take over bid at the moment. Malcolm Glazer (owner of the Tampa Bay Buccs, some MLS teams) is trying to increase his share of the club.

thats funny that no Spanish clubs got though. All the money they spent on players.

Talk about a myopic attitude...

If you don't like "soccer," simply don't read or respond to the thread. There's no reason whatsoever to mar the enjoyment of people who do enjoy watching it and talking about it, especially in the General Sports forum. It's one of the reasons the forum was created.

Simply move on.

No harm, no foul.

Hey Iggy, it really looks good for Everton this year. Nine games to go and they are 8 points ahead of their best pals Liverpool. Isn't it funny how things turn out? I mean last year it didn't look good with Rooney gone and all. And then all of a sudden they were contenders. Then they lost their midfield engine Gravesen to Real Madrid and still they marched on.

I hope they can make it into the Champions League. It would be refreshing to see new faces. My wish is that Red Star Belgrade (Champions in 1991) enter the competition too.

Yep it looks good that they might qualify for the champions league.
The traitor Rooney is not playing good.

Yeah I remember the players Red strar had....Dragan Stojkovic he went on to play for marseille, Dejan Savicevic, Robert Prosinecki, Darko Pancev failure in Italy Inter Milan?

God I'm pissed that united lost. Bloody crespo is a dud for Chelsea and then he scores two against us.

Dejan Savicecvic played for AC Milan and was anything BUT a failure.

The English Premier League title is well out of the reach of united's hands but as long as we beat arsenal and the scum from liverpool I will be happy.
Also Red Star to make the championsleague and win the Serbian And montenegro league over Partizan.

Crespo did alright for Chelsea, but he didn't like the lifestyle in England. Can he play agains Chelsea in Champions League if Chelsea draw AC Milan? I hoe not since Chelsea are still paying his paycheck while he is on loan to AC Milan.

I know that in EPL players on loan can't play against the team that loaned them, but I'm not sure if it works out like that in uefa games as well.

#22
Well, it depends on the terms of the loan. If they put a special clause in it that doesn't allow it then the player on loan cannot play against his club.

However, if there is no such clause it can happen.

Let me give you a very interesting example where a club totally messed up. Last season when Real Madrid played against Monaco in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, Fernando Morientes of Real Madrid was on a season long loan at Monaco. Well, he scored twice against his club and knocked them out of the competition. Talk about millions lost in revenue.

I don't know if Crespo has that clause or not. We'll see.

I would settle with getting rid of the criminals in leading positiona of the clube before they totally ruin us.

Obviosly,I am supporting Red Star over years, but I already lost hope that they will join Champions league in near future. Not with this people in the board!

Darko Pancev was the Failure.....when he left Belgrade for Italy...he was crap.
Just like Ian Rush,

Gazza never had the chance after his knee problems. David Platt was surprising good.

Hey people, the draw for the quarterfinals took place today and boy, there are gonna be some spectacular matches.

Here's the draw:

AC Milan vs. Inter Milan
Liverpool vs. Juventus
Olympique Lyon vs. PSV Eindhoven
Chelsea FC vs. Bayern Munich

1st leg: 5/6 April
2nd leg: 12/13 April

Well, the first tie will be a cracker. It's one of the greatest rivalries in world football and we should be in for a treat. I hope Inter makes it.

Who do you think will go all the way?

i'll be suprised if there's no blood spilled in the milan v inter game. i'll take chelsea to go all the way. kezman has gotten the wide open miss out of the way in the spain game, so i expect nothing but net :D from now on.
