The sad thing about the MVP is that it has an overwhelming amount to do with a teams record as a whole, which at times can be a bit contradicting. (Teams with an hefty amount of good players are less reliant any one specifically, yet tend to win alot)
Whether a true MVP or not, the award is regularly handed out to the best player of a team that finishes with the best or near best regular season record.
Every year there is a handful of very valid MVP candidates that realistically will never be picked due to their teams record.
