Two reasons not to remodel

The Maloofs can remodel the arena, if they want to pay for it. For 10+ years the Maloofs have said that a remodel of the current arena was NOT ACCEPTABLE and over 10 years ago, the city's consulting engineer said pretty much the same thing. The foundation of the current super cheap arena cannot support an NBA acceptable expansion.

The Maloofs know they are stuck here for an indeterminate period, so they just want to sucker the city into paying for this stupid remodel idea. It's a no go. The city is not going to go for a remodel. Since they can't really expand PBP, they can't add much in the way of luxury seats, more kitchen space, larger concourses, add multi-level concourses, more marshaling space off stage or more loading docks.

Of course it doesn't help that the original architect has a wild hair up his *** about how viable a remodel is, but has absolutely no idea how to finance it. The city rejected that clown already, because he had no proposal for financing such a remodel. The city's current loan to the team is from a bond that still has almost 20 years left on it's term and we're going to spend more on it, for little to no gain? And just what would be the city's security for the new loan. The property most likely isn't worth what is owed to the city right now and a remodel will not increase the value much.

So why are the Maloofs bringing up remodel after 10+ years of saying that was not acceptable to them? I think, because the league has sent them the message that they are not going anywhere for the foreseeable future and that if they insist they can't financially make it in Sacramento, then sell to one of the many potential buyers that wants to keep the Kings in Sacramento. (Like Burkle)

This is just a stupid scam to try and convince the league that they are trying to work with the city on a deal, when in reality they just turned down the best deal they are likely to see. What clowns the Maloofs are and Napear is dumb as dirt when it comes to understanding financing on a deal like this, especially public financing.
 
I've always had reservations about Grant Napear wearing two hats, despite all the people who continually tell me what a good guy he is, etc. This latest travesty just proves that. No matter how independent he may want people to believe his radio show is, the truth is there for everyone to see. Napear will now spout the remodel rhetoric as though it's been handed down on stone tablets, even though he has done just the opposite for years. It's not that he's dumb as dirt so much he "owes his soul to the company store." The only person to speak out publicly and vehemently about the duplicitous Maloofs was Carmichael Dave, and look what happened to him.

By talking with various contractor friends, I know there are some improvements that can actually be done to PBP, but they all agree it's nothing like what the Maloofs are hinting is possible. And, as kennadog and others have already pointed out, there's no financing plan in place and there's NO way the city will buy into the lunacy.

It's going to be very interesting to see the actual plans MSE comes up with.
 
Sure you can make cosmetic changes to make PBP look nicer and maybe even be more confortable. But that's mainly it, cosmetic changes, when structural changes are needed. Ultimately, a new building will be needed, so why should the city waste money on a short term solution to a long term problem?

Sort of like re-decorating your home, when there's a gigantic hole in the roof and the foundation is cracking.
 
Got to see team usa last night at the verizon center in dc. My a school for the navy is at ft. meade and was able to get tickets to it. I was looking around the arena wishing the kings had an arena like that.
 
Lets clear the smokescreen out right here. There is no serious plan and the only people involved is Greg Van Dusen who hasn't worked for the Kings front office in 22 years. And Rann Haight who is an "architect" that hasn't done any real public facilities before or since he designed Arco Arena. He seems like he considers himself more of an artist these days. Neither of these guys are experts nor should they be hired to do any planning of anything on PBP. The people that the city hired to inspect Arco had more depth of understanding about the arena than this "dream team" of remodel experts the Maloofs have conjured up.

But mostly, the city put together a viable arena deal with people that build sports facilites around the globe and are widely respected. And oh yes, a facility and deal that had NBA approval. The Maloofs kicked that deal to the curb. If the Maloofs want it remodeled, then have at it boys. It's your turn to plan and write checks. The city is not helping. And oh by the way, this plan to fool everyone into thinking the city doesn't want the Kings because we are shooting down your remodel won't pass the sniff test with anyone.

True, but the Maloofs and their lawyers are going to try to use this nonsense against the city. It starts with what do you think about remodel? This is a good idea. Let's save the Kings. Shouldn't the city put in 50 million dollars to keep the Kings here for 10 years and save those jobs and taxes?

No, well. I guess Sacramento doesn't want the Kings to stay.

It depends on how much profit the city receives from their contributions. If the city gets close to nothing, it would be a hard selling point that the city turned it's back on the maloofs.

The biggest problem with that argument is the Maloofs can end up hoisted on their own petard. THEY are the ones who brought in the experts and invited the news crews to take a tour of Arco so they could point out all the defects and the reasons why Arco absolutely could not be remodeled. People haven't forgotten about that and it will be very hard if not impossible for them to refute it. I'm sure every TV station in Sacramento that covered the "event" has lots of footage in their archives. All the city has to do is point to that "documentary" as a reason for not wanting to buy into the remodel farce. No way it ends up looking like the city is the one not willing to cooperate.

When Grant brought up this issue on his show, the first thing he pointed out was that the Maloofs have claimed for 10 years that a remodel "couldn't" be done. So he pretty much pointed out that either the Maloofs have been lying for 10 years, or that they are lying about the ability to remodel the arena now.
