Trade rumors involving the Kings

There's no article. Just a one-line comment that Wolfson tweeted, saying he got a text from a "league contact" saying Miller will be either a King or a TWolf by all-star break. Not really sure that's worth a whole thread, so I'm going to change the title a little and make this the "trade rumor" thread.

Apparently, Denver has dug in their heal on any proposed deal with Kings for Miller. Looks like they don't want Outlaw as part of deal Kings pushing - presumably along with Fredette. Seems Nugs don't much like Fredette either):

Is this new info or the same stuff people refuted weeks ago?

I'm not sure it's considered old or new. Bottom line is Kings are in the market for backcourt help and Dre is said to be available, so says just about everyone in Denver. Kings trying to unload a contract as part of the deal is apparently holdup - plus Denver exploring with others, Minny, etc.

What's the point of trading for Andre Miller? The dude's like 39, I don't care if he's still a decent pg, he's old, definitely not that much of an upgrade defensively. I mean it would make sense if we were trying to make a playoff push, but we're not, so whats the point. Plus, leaving IT at the starting point only raises his trade value so if anything, this trade would leave us worse off. No point for a short term gain right now

Exactly. If we're going to be trading players like Jimmer/Thornton, we need to make more Derrick Williams type trades where we trade for another young guy with unreached potential. There's no point in trading for a guy like Miller since we're not even close to sniffing the playoffs.

If it were Jimmer and Outlaw for Miller, then Kings get pass first PG for the same money for half a year, plus drop $3 million in team salary for next season. But Denver are themselves at LT doorstep, so are not thrilled to take on next year salary just to dump Miller.

Hope that didn't come off as confrontational. I just meant if you had seen a new rumor about Denver not being willing to trade. The old ones had been shot down by multiple media people.

Not at all. What is known for sure is Denver is shopping Andre Miller big-time. I wouldn't call it desperately, but pretty close. Obviously Kings have backcourt problems, especially at PG, whether Miller band-aid makes any sense or not. PDA want to unload a contract - Outlaw, MT especially. May not be any takers out there for Kings to salary dump on someone.

I think the Kings are aiming for the playoffs in 2014. Miller can be a great vet presence in a young team plus he'd help solve a starting pg or backup pg problem. Smart player that will improve our team. Here's my trade proposal..

Kings trade: JT, Landry, and Jimmer
Nuggets trade: McGee, Miller, and Jordan Hamilton...

I have no clue why they would do this.. but why not?

you realize how mathematically difficult it would be to make the playoffs this year? Plus you just traded both of our Pf's in a hypothetical playoff push

not sure what this trade does for us but we would still have williams, thornton & outlaw. miller is like 40 yrs old now.. the brightside is that we'd be on shaqtin a fool with mcgee on board. :)

Not sure.. but imagine Ben and McGee on shaqtin a fool on the same night for missing back to back dunks.. McGee has potential but nowhere worth his contract... not sure what it does for the Nuggets either.. but why not? They've been fine without McGee and have Robinson in place of Miller.

Can IT or anyone else for that matter be traded in a sign and trade at the end of the year? I have run several scenarios through my mind and this seems to be the best solution to what I chose to call the "IT problem."

I have no idea why the Kings would do this either.

Rather go for a stopgap like Mo Williams, if he exercises ETO. Miller is ancient.
McGee is out with foot stress fracture. You never want hear word "stress" for a guy who jumps very high - he might not have many jumps left in his career. And the guy is not that good a defender.
With the new CBA old team that stretch the decision till the off-season gets very little in return, unless the new team doesn't have cap space or exception to sign the player. Even then return is mediocre at best.

Many people complain about how JT should not be a starter and is at beast a rotational big man(I get this from many other kings' fan sites). Landry is coming off of an injury, and I think that was a bad signing all the way. Landry can contribute in many ways, but I still see him as a liability on offense. McGee is somewhat of an upgrade for our front court. He just needs more bball iq and he can be a good shot blocker and defender. I'm not too sure on his recovery though. I don't think we're resigning Jimmer.. Miller gives us the vet presence and becomes our backup pg, or even starting pg if that's how they prefer to use him.

What do you think about trading for Lin and Asik? Lin is an upgrade over IT, but still a bad defender. Asik is a good defender but would clog up our paint creating no spacing.

The only thing that McGee has ever been good at is blocking shots. He is not good at defense or scoring, and has one of the lowest ball IQs I have ever seen.

Where do I start? Yes, JT would probably be one of the best 3rd bigs in the league but that could also mean us, I dunno, drafting another big a moving JT to the bench as opposed to packaging all of our front court depth to Denver in order to trade for a rich man's Hassan Whiteside, which means he's still dumber than a box of rocks. The only thing really upgraded by McGee is our team's stupidity factor. If our team is going to splurge on an overpaid dumb shot blocker type, I'd rather us go after Larry Sanders who could probably be had for less in the offseason, makes less per year than McGee (though the contract does extend for several more years), and has actually had a very good season in the past and has thus far managed to avoid having highlight reels made of his dumb moves. And even then, I'm still very hesitant to pull the trigger.

On the Lin/Asik front, I've never been a big Lin booster but his contract is very similar to what we'd probably end up paying Thomas per year (if not a little cheaper) but I'd probably rather just let IT go in free agency than replace him with Lin. Asik has been discussed to death in earlier posts but he's currently injured and JT has been outproducing him as of late, which isn't to say he's worse than JT but rather that he may not present as large an upgrade as we'd want from a move.

I can see the Bucks maybe trading either Sanders or Hensons if they decide to draft Embiid. The kings should be the first on that line.. but we don't have any trade pieces that amuse teams other than IT and maybe Thompson.

IT is a RFA and I think the kings can get more value for him if they look for a few trading partners now, that's if they don't see him as a part of the future.

I just can't see us making the playoffs next year barring another Rudy Gay type trade.

For me, the #1 most important thing is getting the highest draft pick possible this year. That way the team gives them the best chance to grab one of these nearly can't miss type prospects.

Andre Miller is a guy who comes in and makes us a little better but I feel like it would damage the team more than help it because he might get us a couple more wins and a worse draft pick this year while still keeping us in mediocrity next year.

I disagree. Kings were fighting with anyone, but elite, lately, and what's more important, we started to see them play bad and still keep the lead. Kings will be in the mix with another few months of kids growing up, draft pick, who should be a rotational player by mid-season, and minor roster adjustments in the summer. Oh, and full training camp!

I like Hamilton, but I don't like McGee. For some reason Hamilton is in the doghouse in Denver. Not sure why. I will read up on the Denver forums to see what they have to say. If we could get a guy like Hamilton and Miller for Landry and Jimmer I would take it. Wouldn't take JT for McGee though.
