Top College Freshmen

What a completely weak sauce freshman class. I agree with Vlade4GM that Holiday and Monroe are probably the best two prospects, and one is tissue soft and the other is averaging 10 points a game. Last year you had Beasley dominating, Griffin looking solid, Westbrook, Love, Derrick Rose looking promising, OJ Mayo, Eric Gordon, Jerryd Bayless...

This draft sucks. What a year to have a high pick.

I think Monroe/Holiday could fit our bill nicely, but yeah you expect more from a top 3 pick. I think this class albeit still inferior to last year's, isn't as mature, it still has some potential to get better. Hopefully next draft will be better and we luck out in the lottery.

9. Courtney Fortson, Arkansas. The honorific of best freshman point guard is pretty clearly a competition between Mack and Fortson. I'd call it a draw, which is a compliment to both players. Fortson commits too many TOs and is quite literally painful to watch at the free throw line, but his astounding assist rate (currently sixth in the nation) is a remarkable achievement for a player in the January of his first season. He's also weirdly effective on the glass for someone listed under six feet--in the Hogs' upset of Texas, Fortson recorded a 13-10 double-double.

Number 9 among freshmen aint bad at all. I am rooting for this kid, but also i wouldn't mind if he declared for the 2k9 draft, probably an early 2nd rounder at this point and time. If his team is nationally ranked and gets to the final four, then he will be a first round pick. But i highly doubt he will declare, his college upside is like tim tebow.

Forston sucks. I've never seen a player look dumber on the basketball court. He goes charging into guys standing still, shoots horrible shots, and turns the ball over constantly.

It was so bad that if I later learned he was high or drunk during the game I think it would improve my opinion of him.

Yeah I would love to have monroe. That 13pts 6rebs is just awesome. No thanks. I'd take Curry over this guy. Monroe has exactly half the talent of Hilton Armstrong and we all see what a beast he has been in the NBA. Geez if Jason Thompson were in this draft he would be a top 5 pick.

Honestly can anybody remember a draft worse than this one?? I mean can we trade our 2 picks for something good.

Because I just have to be optimistic (the alternative is not very pleasant), remember that Westbrook didn't really start to rise until the second half of the college season. There could be other Westbrooks out there. I'm really starting to think though that this is going to be the kind of draft that you're going to be forced to draft on athleticism and even more on potential. If you draft a guy like Collison, who is more of a finished player, then you are playing it safe, but you're not going to get a star. Petrie might have to take some risks he doesn't want to take and look into the crystal ball. No Thompsons this year.

Who cares about the QUANTITY, this is actually BETTER situation with a HIGH draft pick(as we're looking like a lock with a top 5 pick....) because it only takes ONE pick for us, when we're that high. It sucks for everyone below us. We'll need probably no more than FIVE players, and just hope we get the best one there.

I would have to say Jrue Holiday and Greg Monroe are looking like the two best freshman players, which is unfortunate for teams picking this year, because these two are middle of the road players in last years freshman class. Samardo Samuels has had some flashes, but defintiely not NBA ready.

YOU have A worse CHANCE of GETTING the GOOD pick YOU want WHEN there ARE fewer GOOD players IN a DRAFT particularly WHEN there ARE no SURE things IN this CRAPPY draft.

You are correct about Fortson playing outside of his game, but its hard to detract from a guy who is a freshman, 5-11, starter, and team captain, who just so happened to lead his team on a 90-45 point run against so-so competition, and contributed to the defeat of two top-10 nationally ranked colleges. I dont care if he actually is getting "high" before during or after the game, because he makes basketball look easy...sometimes. IMHO, he is worth taking a look at.....as of now, i would compare him to derek fisher.
