These are the New Glory Days!

#1
In just over one season, we have watched our team become better than what we've been dreaming about for years. I love watching vintage Kings games from what we call the "glory days," but whenever I do it surprises me how slow the game often was back then, even at what was considered a frenetic Kings pace. Pace and shooting percentages that were once celebrated are more common now, The NBA has changed in several ways, many of which have built largely on what the Kings from those years brought to the floor.

As much as I love watching Webber, Bibby, Peja, Doug, Bobby, Pollard, Miller, and the rest of the OG, I like today's Kings even better. From our collective three-point shooting to our burgeoning defensive identity, I think the current Kings could dominate the late 90's NBA and it wouldn't even be close. There are still things from the old days that I miss, like those White Chocolate passes, but as we look at our coach and our players, I encourage us all to keep taking those moments to marvel at what we have right now.

I think we're now living in the days that we're going to look back on 20 years from now.... and we're getting to watch them being written. What are your thoughts?

I think the potential of this current group far exceeds the potential of the previous group at this point in their postseason run. I truly believe that this group has what it takes to finally be the one. Sure, we may have to add a few pieces, while subtracting a few pieces, in order to actually get there. But the nucleus of this group, I honestly believe, will be the nucleus that finally gets us there.

What we have is special. The rest of the league just doesn't know how special it is. They are about to find out.

The missing piece IMO isn't necessarily a question of talent or fit I have always believed this team needs a bad guy.

We need someone who's willing and able to take it to a level of physicality and competitiveness that the team can feed off.

I agree. It is the new glory days, and yes, I do believe this team is better than the old Divac-Webber team. What is nice is that they still are young and better days lie ahead. We've lived through the Dark Ages. Now it's time to appreciate the Renaissance.

Agreed. Im so happy to have stuck it out to see this team. Very fun, good chemistry, solid character. Ownership stepped back and we got new, awesome, management. I just wish we didnt get the short end of the ref stick so much. I have a hard time believing they foul that much more and with the eye test its evident.

However Im not sure these guys are better yet. Those 02, 03 teams should have won it all. They were better than the lakers and everyone in the east. They regularly won games wire to wire with no let up.

Could this team beat that team? Maybe. Id be an interesting 7 game series. However the games different, rules and strategy have changed a lot. Theres a lot more parity and talent all around now as well.

LETS GO KINGS AND LIGHT THAT BEAM!

I think we can't call this era the Glory Days - that moniker is already taken for this franchise. And, to be honest, while I'm optimistic about this group, maybe let's develop a bit more of a resume than just a single 3-seed before worrying about how to refer to it. For all we know this group is going to be anywhere from Championship I to Crash And Burn. Give it some time.

Domas has been bouncing bigs around these past few games and we all know Fox is a baaaaaaad MFer (I mean, the way he closed out last nights first half? Come on...).

Not to mention improved aggressiveness on defense from Huerter and Keegan making some kind of demonic deal where he traded elite 3pt shooting for elite defense.

Monk has swag, Lyles was about to get in a scrap with Brook Lopez and Giannis at the same time last season, so nobody can call him soft. Len is a bruiser (get well soon).

Hopefully one of our defensive specialists can start hitting from 3, because those guys all bring it.

I think we're pretty tough as is!

The last thing this team needs to have around, is a someone like Draymond Green or Demarcus Cousins. What a vibe kill that would be

This isn’t the 80’s and 90’s “enforcer” era, so I don’t believe a bad guy is needed at all.

IMO, they need an lengthy, athletic, defensive-minded wing. One that can score a bit too.

Many have brought up Siakam and Anunoby. Doesn’t have to be them, but a similar type player.

They need someone that can hold their own defending the likes of KD, LBJ, #77, Paul George, Giannis, and Tatum. HB and Keegan are capable of defending those guys in spurts, but they need a guy that is a primary defender.

But so does every team…

It's interesting that we all saw this need during the offseason. Keegan Keegan Murray Murray may have also seen this need and transformed himself into this. Keegan being able to guard the other team's best 1-4 in a virtual lock down fashion and score from all three levels including being one of the best shooters of his generation has the potential to be an era-defining outcome.
