The streak is over!

Well when we finally had a professional team it was our team and has been for me ever since. Left northern California feb 98 and moved to Colorado and 10 years ago to Ohio.

Never have spent one minute of regret to being a kings fan for all those years.

I was drinking a lot the last 25 years. I was there. It was fun. But I dont remember much of the specifics. I was always pretty casual until 98-99? I had a buddy who was a big sports guy brought them to my attention. After that I know I watched nearly every game for 3-4 years. Going to like 10 games a season. Then I moved and didn't watch much TV. But listening on the radio to games and Dave and Metta at night was hilarious. It's been tough but they are my one sports team I really root for. Glad to be back to enjoyable. Really hoping I can get to a playoff game somehow.

Those Maverick series were by far my favorites to watch. Lotta BJax heroics in those ones. The TWolves series was a painful loss. Thought our team had them covered.

Spurs was a fun one because I didn't expect them to compete that series. Bonzi randomly turning into baby Shaq that series and the last second KMart basket were fun.

Funny thing is that I only remember playing the Jazz all those years because, right before we played them in 2003, I remember thinking to myself, "Oh my god, the Jazz in the 1st round, AGAIN!!!???" But neither of those series were memorable enough for me to remember much about them.

Just like you, I also loved each series we played against the Mavs. That team was fun to watch - Dirk, Nash, Jason Terry. Eduardo Najera will always be a name that will stick out to me from those teams; I used to enjoy watching him play.

I recall the end of the Timberwolves series annoying the crap out of me. We had no business losing that series at the end of the day.

No Kings fan who was alive during that playoff run, and who remembers going to those games, will ever forget Kevin Martin's buzzer beater against the Spurs. But, let us not forget the incredible defense on the other end of the court that led to his buzzer beater; That was fantastic!!!

Also, we can't talk about Kings playoff basketball during that time without mentioning the classic rivalry against the Lakers...Horry's shot (which should have never been had instant replay been in place at that time - Does the name Samaki Walker ring a bell??? Anyone???). Oh, and game 5. Hands down, THE ABSOLUTE BEST KINGS GAME I'VE EVER BEEN TO IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. My man, Mike Bibby, nailing that game winner. Webber setting that beautiful screen right before. The roar of the crowd. Bobby J's incredible defense on Kobe's final shot.

Oh, by the way, if I ever find myself locked up in a room with this idiot...

I’ve been loving listening and reading all the ways the kings have touched fans lives and how much this year has meant to them but this interaction between Carmichael Dave and his Dad ( who called in to the show for the first time ever) really got to me. The last time the Kings made the playoff, I was fresh out of college and moved to DC for grad school. Those days I would come to Kingsfans whenever I got homesick. Spent a few years living in DC and Philly and moved back to Sacramento right around the relocation saga. I was so bummed that I was finally coming home and the yet my Kings was leaving. Fast forward to 2023, I’ve settled down now back in my hometown and happily married with a three year old. Can’t wait to take her to see the Kings when she’s a little older to appreciate it

Less than a year ago you said some stupid crap as a Kings fan so you are probably where you should be. If you need a receipt, there are quite a few in the Mike Brown Hired thread. I can point them out for you if you are too scared to revisit your utter asinine remarks. SLAB has owned his. You were probably the worst in that thread over kb which is saying something.

You HATED the hire, and the team. And the front office. You sir have the most crow to eat

Wow I haven't heard the name Najera in about 20 years lol. Completely forgot about that guy. All I remember is being incredibly annoyed with him but I have no recollection of what his game was like.

Every year, after game 82 (or earlier during the most recent lockout year and both "covid" years), the depression sunk in deeper and deeper, because I knew that I wouldn't be looking at numbers for that specific season under the "postseason" columns.

I'm not quite sure many on this forum will fully understand how damn good it felt to update my workbook earlier today to look like this:

This list of the won-loss record reminds me of the huge turnaround in the 98-99 season when Webber, Divac, Stojakavic, and Jason Williams all arrived at once! This current team did not have quite that radical a turnover, but the change reminds me of that sudden shift in 98, with a new coach, a somewhat new Sabonis, and others like Huerter and Monk. It's not just new players; that happens all the time--it's that they clicked and fit. This kind of major change in culture and success doesn't happen very often, so I'm wanting to enjoy it as much as I did back in 98!

What makes this sudden turnaround so special (and actually somewhat emotional) for me is the simple fact that, to be very perfectly honest with you, I wasn't as hardcore of a Kings fan prior to the 98-99 season as I have been ever since. The years prior to the 98-99 season were my childhood/young adult years, and I really only started to watch basketball maybe in the early 90s. Well, back then, the Bulls were the team. And I instantly became a fan. MJ just captivated me at that time.

However, once he retired the second time around, I knew for a fact that I was going to be a hardcore Kings fan for the rest of my life.

This is not to say that I never watched any Kings basketball those years. I went to a handful of games, but I maybe only saw one win out of a good 10-15 games I attended during those years.

Which is why my list only begins with that strike-shortened 98-99 season. Because that was the first season during which I was truly a hardcore Kings fan. I've never looked elsewhere since, even during the drought that has now officially ended.

I think you'll enjoy it just as much as you did back in 98, and maybe you'll enjoy it even more than that! This team is special. Something about the current group just feels right. I don't know about you, but I am actually really beginning to get the feeling that this might finally be the group...
 
OK. Somehow I missed this until today.

Rudy freaking Gobert apparently believe the KINGS are one of several teams the NBA is rigging games for.

Also, pretty rich from a player whose team managed to win 3 of 4 games against the KINGS this season.

Guess the officials weren't good enough at making sure the KINGS won :rolleyes:

I appreciate that and hope it will be so. The year before that turnaround in 98-99, the Kings were 27-55!

Yes I do! I didn’t like the hire or the Haliburton trade and I was wrong on both although the trade is the rare one where both teams came out great out of it. But I was for sure wrong on Brown and I’m glad I was

I teach my children to be held accountable because I live that. I don't think any organization or individual lifestyle can truly be considered a productive member of society unless they hold themself/themselves to that standard.

My bad for wanting the most out of society. But dude deserves to apologize and walk that shame walk.
