The NBA, the organization which controlled the Los Angeles Lakers, sent a star player to Los Angeles. Their mission: to destroy the leaders of the East Resistance... Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Doc Rivers. My teammates.

The first terminators were programmed to strike at me, in the year 2008... before I was ready. They failed.

The second, Kobe Bryant was set to strike at myself, when I was still an all-star. As before, the Resistance was able to send a lone warrior. A protector for the defenseless and bottom dwellers of the west. It was just a question of which team would reach him first...

He looks from Terminator to Rudy. Back to Terminator.

Is this a nightmare? Or has he finally gone truly bad? Incredibly, Terminator politely reaches his hand down to him, offering to help him up. The last thing he ever expected to see.

2 THE LIGHTS, BRIGHT IN AN OPEN FACILITY

Tilting down reveal that we are in a gym, very lively. People are playing defense, having fun. Passing, communicating... adults are playing on a basketball court.

RUDY GAY (V.O.)

Watching Demarcus with the machine, it was suddenly so clear. The Terminator would never stop, it would never leave him... it would always be there. And it would never hurt him, never shout at him or get drunk and hit him, or say it couldn't spend time with him because it was too busy. And it would foul to protect him. Of all the would-be teammates who came and went over the years, this thing, this machine, was the only one who measured up. In an insane world, it was the sanest choice.

The luxury of hope was given to me by the Terminator. Because if a machine can learn the value of teamwork... maybe we can too. Rudy ruffles his shoelaces as he runs off to the locker room with his teammate Demarcus Cousins. ​
