The STH appreciation day with the Monarchs

How many of you went to Arco Arena today (Monday, Sept. 11) for the Monarchs' STH appreciation day, or whatever it was that they called it?

I bring this up because I just saw the sports report on the 11:00 p.m. news tonight (Monday night) on KCRA-TV (Channel 3) and there was mention of the event.

There was even a shot of Luv13fan for about five seconds, talking with someone at a table, but the camera was at an angle so that it wasn't visibly clear who she was talking to!

I was there. Everyone was there except Kim Smith and Dmya Walker. I was awesome to be able to tell each of them how proud I am of the way they played this season - all the way to the finals and only missed by 5 points. Wow.

Yes, today's SacBee said that Kim already left yesterday (Sunday) to Brazil, where she will be with the Canadian team in the World Basketball Championships. DeMya will return to Russia, where she played during the last offseason before going off on her maternity leave.

Anyway, the event is still a nice to way to say thanks to a team that had a very good season even though we just fell a bit short of the ultimate prize. Still, we defied the odds against those who thought we wouldn't get past the Sparks in the playoffs.

:)

It was very cool being able to talk with the players & giving them a final farewell to a very exciting season. Most everyone was upbeat.
Ticha P. was very quiet. I thanked her for trying to knock down those shots & for shooting. My friend Carolyn tried to take her picture towards the end & she asked Ticha to smile...Ticha put her head down, her eyes got misty & she left the court. Pam left to go check on her & Krista witnessed the event.
It was tough to see her so down.
All's I can say is that we Win & Lose as a team...no one player is to blame.

We are 100% behind you Monarchs & we fans are proud of your accomplishments, this season...You will always be our 2005 Champions!
Thanks to all the fans who stood by the team this year, I enjoyed your company.

It was a nice event. I was finally able to get all the players that were there to sign the team poster. Ticha was very down...and I felt really bad for her. I told her, thank you for an exciting season, and that we really appreciated her being part of the team. And a few moments later she left the table for awhile....:(

I wore my vintage 1999 Yo MVP t-shirt, which I had her sign,:D . And when I got to the table with Chameka, Brittney, and Nicole, the rookies were almost in awe about the shirt....they didn't know Yo was MVP and Newcomer of the Year. So that was kinda funny. Coach Whiz was talkative, and he had one of the longest lines too.

We told all the players thank you, and my partner brought each one a couple of carnations.

Again, it was a nice event. The only thing I didn't like was the 5pm start time. The players seemed relaxed and not as distracted as they have been in the past.

Man I'm all bummed I missed this event! Oh well. I wish Ticha wouldn't be so critical on herself. I mean, sure we could've used some shots, but I've been around the concept of "team" for a while now, and True...one player can impact a team, but you really win or lose as a team. It's a team effort, and we can't just say we loss because Ticha's not a pure shooter. She's her biggest critic and I'm sure she knows what needs to happen next season etc. It's tough reading how down she was knowing that our loss of the Championship wasn't solely based upon her performance. There were others who didn't have such great games...

But anyways, for those of you who went on Monday I hope yall had a GREAT time! There's always next year...so I'm looking forward to it, (and also hoping the 8 month wait goes by FAST! and there won't be any drastic changes over the off season ie player trades or what have you). Until next time Monarchs fans!

No "drastic changes" for the Monarchs? I don't know about that.

The Monarchs now have four unrestricted free agents (Yo, Ticha, Erin Buescher, and Hamchetou Maiga-Ba) whose contracts have just expired. Also, Kara Lawson is a restricted free agent, which means if any other team wants her, the Monarchs will have 10 days to match or increase their offer.

It is too easy to say that the team will sign all of those players, but then Coach/G.M. Whisenant now has to deal with a fairly tight salary cap. He may have to risk letting go one (or more) of our free agents so he could make room for more salary cap space to sign another younger and less expensive player.

I am trying to figure out how I managed to be on Television. No reporter spoke to me at the Event.

Man I don't know how folks find LUV13... How does that happen?
