The Spirit of Tim Donaghy

Yes, we’re all biased KINGS fans here, but that doesn’t mean we can’t see the obvious.

I just want to know when the KINGS are ever going to benefit from a kind unfair Q4 whistle at home against a team of Denver’s caliber. I’m not just talking one important call down the stretch. I’m talking a string of calls that change the game in our favor.

It only seems to work in one-direction most of the time.

Didnt see it was posted here, I posted it in the game thread. There were also these...

I posted this on the game thread, today I listened to the entire interview of Tim Donoghy on vlad tv. Kind of fitting.
I remember watching game 6 against the lakers in 2002 and swearing afterward I was done with the NBA………and I’m still here. My wife and I were just talking about why do we even watch basketball when games like today occur? We were commenting on the fouls that weren’t called as they were happening. You could see the tide turning for Denver and it was really grating.
i typically hate complaining about the refs in any game because its always been a way to excuse stupid play by the team you support. Then there’s a game like this, where the refs totally sucked out all the fun of watching what would had been a very exciting game for any basketball fan, and I’m not gonna lie, I had that Tim Donoghy interview bouncing around in my head in that 4th quarter. Someone was making some serious money on this game cause they knew exactly how this game was gonna get called. And I wonder if these 3 refs had a meeting with the league before this game or at halftime. Who has a beef with Deebo, cause it certainly looked like they were blatantly ignoring fouls on him.

For those fans who haven’t, I suggest you go to YouTube and punch in Tim Donaghy, vlad tv. Watch the interview and keep that in mind when you see another debacle like last night.

Tim Donaghy is a convicted felon douchebag who is desperately trying to find a way to make a buck and survive. Do you realize the level of conspiracy that it would take to have some sort of league mandate to referee crews about how to call a certain game? Also, why would there be some huge significance on a Nuggets-Kings regular season game?

The reality is the refs last night just collectively had a horrible game. They get graded on each decision they make so I seriously doubt they are happy with the amount of missed calls in that game. Is there a tendency for referees to favor certain superstars, home teams, or franchises? Yes, maybe, but to think it's some sort of secret orders from the NBA is crazy talk.

My 78-year-old wife, and basketball illiterate (but fan), was yelling at the TV about the foul calls against the Kings in Denver. Very unusual behavior from her. Thought I was married to a menopausal Doris Burke for a while there. After the game, she described the officiating and the NBA as "phony and illegitimate". She is ready to swear off basketball, comparing it to Russian judges at figure skating competitions. Jeez.

She did make what may be a valid point. Why do the Kings foul so much, or put themselves in a situation to be called for a foul, when it is so obvious that the game is not being called fairly? I couldn't really come up with a satisfying answer beyond, "That is the way it is for the Kings".

Sorry friend, I don’t have the will (or time) to convince anyone otherwise.
We all have eyes and ears. We all have the will to believe what we want with the information and experiences we have.

Take a look at the Lakers free throw differential over the years or the Luka trade. There are definitely secret orders from the NBA.

With how much money is at stake in the NBA, it's crazy to think that there wouldn't be a tilting of scales in some capacity. It's one argument to say it can and does happen, and another to say it happened last night.

I firmly believe the former. Do think there was a "secret" call to the refs last night? Not sure. But it's a very legitimate question and should not be discounted as "crazy talk".

It also doesn't have to be a secret call. There could be a general incentive for refs to favor certain teams, and that incentive is just known, and could be dispensed in any number of ways. Promotions, salary bumps, favorable scheduling. Perverse incentives to some degree in an organization's employee culture are a routine aspect of corporate life.

I don't even need Donaghy's testimony to make these observations. If you saw game 6 with your own eyes, you know that was not refereed in good faith. It was so egregious that the possibility of that is 0.

You think it’s crazy talk that the nba shut down the fbi investigation haha must be a coincidence that only certain teams get benefits of calls right. Ya Austin reeves has a prime Harden whistle for no reason

The third best player in the league was traded for a 32 year old injury player that’s known he can’t be the number one option.

Imagine Mahomes gets traded tomorrow for Stafford and KC says it’s cause he’s fat and Stafford helps them win now. Fortunately for nfl fans the league doesn’t cater to certain cities and wouldn’t care if the Super Bowl was Buffalo vs a team from butt **** nowhere. Meanwhile in the nba Mike Bibby’s bloody nose is fouling kobe to prevent a kings vs nets matchup. OKC/Cleveland playing great basketball but all you heard about was bronny and lebron

No one will ever convince me that Dallas gave up Doncic, not even a year off him single handedly taking them to the finals, because he’s kinda chubby and gets hurt.
So they trade him for Anthony Davis? Cause he’s a paragon of health? And the lakers get Doncic for peanuts. Sure…..ok. Who here buys this?
Dallas didn't give up Doncic because he's kinda chubby and gets hurt.
Dallas gave up Doncic because the dude who decided to give up Doncic is an idiot.

I'm 100% tinfoil hat when it comes to the Luka trade.

I feel like that KAT for Randle trade was pretty suss too.

NBA caters to the fair weather and bandwagon fans because it's a deeply unserious sport with its garbage reffing (that has gotten worse since legal sports betting) and focus on players over teams.

Then Silver, the genius, wonders why ratings are down.

I'll probably stop watching starting next season because I have a windows 10 PC which MS will no longer be updating starting in October, live out of Cali and have to [REDACTED].

I hope they use this as fuel to continue to beat up on teams that they should. Take the spurs seriously and crush those mfs

KAT isn’t a superstar though he’s a part time all star and they had Ried to fill in his place while getting back Randle who is 20/10 and DD coming off a good playoff run. That trade is easily justified

I wouldnt say it's easily justified, and recall there was a lot of "WTF?!" dialogue post trade.

The KAT for Randle trade is hell of a lot easier to justify than trading Luka though. That's a generational horrible decision and will probably be the benchmark for bad trades for the next 30-50 years.

We see different era of "unwritten" rules. Years ago it started with the "star" calls. Later we saw many "blockbuster" trades - when one team gets everything and other teams get nothing. Now we have the "issue" with the reffing of certain teams, certain games. There is no need for someone to make a direct call before the game. Reffs know very well what and how needs to be done. Cause they did it hundreds times before.
Will NBA take a turn to some kind of normalcy? I highly doubt. NBA is an internationally available entertainment product. People stopped watching games, they mostly "follow". Checking box scores, some highlights.
Still, the game is played and reffed the way it should be in Europe, NCAA. FIBA - not anymore.
