The MVP Race

After watching half the season, I think the leaders for the MVP are Kobe, T-mac, Dirk and Nash. Out of the four i would pick T-mac, ever since yao went down he has been putting up MVP numbers and has lead a team of nobodies to a 4th seed in a packed west. And when T-Mac has been out the team seems to struggle and thats even with a healthy Yao.

And not trying to put down Nash or Dirk but their teams are stacked top to bottom. If those guys ever went down i think their team would not suffer as much as the lakers or houston would if they lostT-mac or Kobe for a long period of time. Heck i think that Dallas and Phx would still be able to make the playoffs as a lower seed. The only reason i give the nod to T-mac over kobe is because he has been able to do much more with far less.

But in reality i think they will choose Dirk or Nash because of how good their teams are, which i hate because they do have all that talent. I really wished they would have 2 awards, one award for the best player in the leauge and the second for the player most valuable to their team. To me it would make more sense.

T-Mac is playing himself into MVP consideration for sure. You've got to give credit to Gilbert Arenas for leading Washington to the top of the Eastern conference too (or close to it).

The problem i have with Arenas is that he plays in the east and has two all-stars playing next to him, Granted Jamison is injured currently. I doubt if put in the same situation as T-mac or Kobe in the west his team would be as effective or succuseful. Not saying that Areans is a bad player but i have a hard time giving the MVP trophy to anybody in the east because not one team in that conf has proved to be any good or better then the other. One day Orlando could look on top of the world but then they could look as bad as boston, this goes for all the so called top tier teams in the east.

I honestly feel that in all the media hype about the Suns, most people forget or even don't realize that Nowitski and the Mavs have the best record in the NBA. If you look at most polls being conducted on who should win MVP, Nash is the overwhelming favorite. I would even argue that Dirk at this point is the underdog.

The funny thing is that when you talk about All Stars, most of the western coaches couldn't even vote a second Mav into the game despite their record. So what does that mean? Well, apart from showing that the Mavs are flying under the radar, it also shows that unlike Nash, Dirk doesn't have incredible individual talents that play alongside him. Rather he has a great team, which he's unquestionably the most valuable player of. When one looks at what Nash has done and considers him an MVP candidate, he or she must also factor in the point that he is playing alongside two legitimate All Stars, in addition to a great supporting cast. This is a very important distinction, which - along with the Mavs record - makes, in my opinion, Dirk the true MVP this year.

Records: Mavs 40-9
Suns 39-10
Not much difference.

And the before Nash arrived Suns were a bunch of misfits who never won anything. And whichever player has come to Suns since Nash's arrival has performed much better than what he had done earlier. Also players who the Suns after a year of two of great showing haven't really been great. The only exception that I can think of is Joe Johnson. I think Nash has a pretty good case.
