The Kings All-Time Fan Favorite Team!

#1
As Kings fans, we know that the Kings have had a lot of players come though Sacramento that have endeared themselves to the city and the fans. We've had great players that have had some magical moments for the Kings, but also received a lot of crap from fans when they didn't produce (Webber, Peja, Vlade, Mitch, JWill, Bibby, etc.). What I'm looking for are the players that no matter what they did... good or bad, you had to love them because they were special to you!

In your opinion, who are the Top 5 "Fan-Favorite" Players to ever put on a Sacramento Kings Uniform?

1. Bobby Jackson - NBA 6th Man of the year, only bench player who's jersey sold more than some starters, biillboards around Sacramento, commercials, those famous playoff kisses from the ladies in the front row in Game 1 against the Lakers back in 2002...I think it's pretty obvious!

2. Corliss Williamson - Put up good numbers with the Kings his first time around and continues to be a fan favorite off the bench. Plus, he always got a ousing ovation from the Sactown fans when he played for the Raptors, and Pistons.

3. Jon Barry - Barry! Barry! Barry! Same scenario as Corliss...key contributor that got great ovations from the fans even after he left.

4. Scot Pollard - Another popular bench player that had his own little following amongst Kings fans.

5. Spud Webb - Spud was a fan favorite for a few years here and often got a more rousing ovation for the starting lineup introductions than Mitch. Plus, I remember the season ticket holders party at Paradise Island back in the day where Spud drew the biggest crowd of fans wanting to meet him...more than Mitch, L-Train, Brian Grant, all those guys!

Honorable Mentions: Bonzi, Ron, KMart, Gerald Wallace, Vlade Divac could be thrown in here as well, Mark Hendrickson (or maybe that was just me), Michael Smith..."The Animal", Yogi Stewart, Jim Les, Reggie Theus, Terry Tyler, LaSalle Thompson, Bobby Hurley, etc.

Bobby, Pollard, Webber, Vlade, J-Will

Lots to choose from, hard to stop at 5. My list could change each time I make it up....

Webber got more crap from the fans during his contract year than anyone on the team. Every time he got hurt I heard fans saying we should trade him and that Peja was the future, etc. It ticked me off because many never realized that we were nothing w/out Webber until 2003 when he went down against Dallas. Bibby wasn't the same, Peja wasn't the same, and Vlade wasn't really the same either. We lost that series because we didn't have Webber there to set everyone else up. Vlade could only do so much, but he was limited without Webber as his running mate on the block setting people up and hitting people on cuts to the basket, open 3's, etc.

I'll agree with Christie as a fan favorite! I should've mentioned him because he was one of my favorites too!

People used to get amped up for Alaa Abdelnaby and Pete Chilcutt as well (for some reason...)

Yikes we were bad for a long time, weren't we??? I never want to hear people complain about the current team again :D

DC is a personal favorite, my list above was more of an overall fan favorite list.

I think Artest, with time and depending on what happens while he's here (title? trades? does he re-sign or leave in 2 years?) has the potential to be a favorite as well.

Doug was my personal favorite, then I would have to say it was B-Jax and then Peja as my favorites. Bibby would probably be next and then C-Webb

Good call on the Alaa Abdelnaby and Pete Chilcutt references!

Anybody remember MARTY CONLON?!!!

VF... Stop reading my mind, I had my list all typed out and it was almost the same.

My #4 was a solid DC
#5 was Barry

Top 3 were the same, I had Vlade/Chris swapped if we are talking order of things.

Theus so has to be #1

I had to include Lawrence Funderburke. Although I never met him personally, I bought his book when it was first offered. I have an autographed copy and he also sent me an autographed picture from back in the day. I have exchanged periodic emails with him and he is truly a class act.

I could see Fundy easily being #5...

I am just a big JB guy because he is a wise/funny guy.

Fundy is a true King tho. Never complained, was always about the team and everytime on the court he gave 150%.

1. Reggie Theus
2. Vlade Divac
3. Chris Webber
4. Scot Pollard/Doug Christie
5. Lawrence Funderburke

I would agree with most of that. I would have to change 1. to Bobby Jackson simply because I wasn't around when Theus was playing and wouldn't be knowledgable about whether he was a favorite at the time. But, I would take VF's word for it. and I would have to add JB at 4.

Lawrence by far gave the most articulate and understandable interviews.

Hi all--have lurked here for a while, but didn't join because I figured I might not have much time and contribute very much.:( But finally decided that I really should join the best nba fan site on the web. :)

Anyway, here's my five, if we're going by position:

PG: Jason "White Chocolate" Williams
SG: Mitch "the Rock" Richmond
SF: Corliss "Big Nasty" Williamson
PF: Michael "the Animal" Smith
C: Michael "Yogi" Stewart

How could someone be a fan favorite without their own special nickname?

All-Time Kings team

I'm going with them at the peak of their popularity. It's easy to be down on J-Dub or Richmond by the end, but here's my rank.

PG - J-Dub - helped revitalize a city
SG - Mitch Richmond - took us to our first playoff series in over a decade
SF - Reggie Theus - Cheating a bit, he was SG, but the orignial face of Sac
PF - Chris Webber - Easy to forget how much he meant to us now, but he was a stud
C - Vlade - Not even close

Bench (no particular order):

C - Miachael Stewart - Great one year run, a number of fans wanted him resigned over Vlade brought in
SG/SF - Sarunious Marcioulonus (SP) - hustle and heart
SF/PF - Corliss Williamson - Beloved, resigned cheap, now classy end of bench player
SG - Doug Christie - Original D player for Sac
PG - Bobby Jackson - Heart and soul of benchmob
PG - Mike Bibby - Clutch player, fueled our near champ run
PG/SG - Jon Barry - Hustle and heart pt.2

Tough omissions - Tyus Edney, Scot Pollard, Brian Grant, Michael Smith, Wayman Tisdale, Ron Artest, Bobby Hurley (post come back, people would chant his name when he came in)

If you ask my wife or any of her friends, the answer is easy........Trevor Wilson hands down.

She watched the games just to see him pull of those warmup "Chippendale Style"
