The future of the Kings and the youngsters look bright.

Even thou the Kings have had a tough year I believe some good has come out of it. It's been halfway thru the season and I have been very excited about the future of this franchise.

First of all we have 2 youngsters in Martin and Garcia who have proved they can play at a high level. If by chance Peja and Bonzi leave I think that these two players could step up and take over next year. I believe we have a young Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince in the making. They are good defensive players and they have only been in the NBA for 1 or 2 years, respectively. They both can shoot from long range and also take it to the basket. Martin has shown he can move with out the ball and is very athletic. Garcia has good court vision and is able to find open players.

Second, Bibby and Miller are IMO in the top 5 at there respected positions. They both are locked up for years to come and are hungry for a ring. However there defensive game has at times been detramental to the team, but l'll touch on that in a bit. They both can spread the floor and hit there outside shots. In fact I would like to see Miller step out to the 3 point line more often.

Next thing is Ronnie Price. Yes, I said Ronnie Price. In the limited time he has played he has shown he belongs in this league. He can shoot well and plays defense the full length of the court. He is quick and extremely athletic. By next year I think he'll be our back-up point gaurd. He may be our next Bobby Jackson. He can come in for defensive purposes when Bibby is letting his man get by him time and time again.

Another thing is our Power Forward spot. We have Shareef and Thomas battling for the starting spot at that position. Both have there pluses and minuses but both compete night in and night out. On any other team you would want those type of players playing for you but I don't think the Kings can win the big one with either one of those player in the starting spot. With the defensive liabilities of Miller, I think we need something more at this position.

Next we have Skinner and Corliss. I think Skinner is more valuable because of his defensive presence in the paint. I have noticed he has improved on offense with his half hook and mid range shot. The question is, Is he the the defense presence we have been asking for? Do we have the offensive weapons to compensate? Corliss is a solid player that brings us the toughness and the leadership we've needed. The only problem is it doesn't help us unless he plays. That is up to the coach to make it work.

Lastly, we are going to need a coach to make of this work. I don't think Adelman is going to be here after this year. With the combination of the Phil Jackson incedent and the many other teams that will be willing to pay much more money for a great coach, I don't see him being on the Kings sideline next year. So the question is....Who is going to put it together next year? I think the situation is going to be simalar to what Detroit went thru except opposite. We are going to have the Offensive weapons but need the defensive mentality of a proven coach.

We'll all just have to pray Petrie makes the right moves to piece this up and coming together.

Go Kings!

While I'm very pleased with the way Martin and Garcia have played as of late, I'm also very cautious when looking towards the future with these two. If they continue to play at the same level during this next road trip then I think that we will see some moves before the trade deadline involving Peja and/or Bonzi. I agree that Miller and Mike are perhaps in the top 5 in the league at their respective positions and building around them as well as some of the young kids may the best way for this team to go. I also agree that Ronny Price deserves more time and I think he'll get it. He's signed for three years (I think) so I'm sure he will get more than enough chances. How nice would it be to be able to pry someone like Bosh away from the Raps. Here's to wishful thinking.

Martin and 'Cisco kind of reminds me of the “Dallas Rookies” a couple years back; Marquis Daniels and Josh Howard. Look at those guys now, studs.

Good posts, and I tend to agree with most of what I've seen here. Although it's a little early to label Martin/Garcia as the next Daniels/Howard, much less Hamilton/Prince, it is an intriguing thought.

I agree that Bibby and Miller should be kept with the kids. Now all we need to do is find our next Ben Wallace, and we'll be OK. Easier said than done, of course, but a combination of KT, SAR, and/or Peja and Bonzi in sign and trades should be able to net someone...

we'll see.... i like them but with thomas, peja and hart still on the team i just dont know what to say. if we dont make the playoffs do we draft a pf/c or a sf because i just dont see how we can win with both of them starting for 82 games.....

Well, I think part of the plan should be to continue to start and develop the youngsters, and if we lose, so be it. Then at least we get a good draft pick and keep rebuilding.

I like what the kids have brought - but they still have gaping holes in their game. I'm not sure they are a solution long term. I think they can play, but I wouldn't hedge my team's future on it.

I disagree though that Bibby or Miller are top 5 in their positions in the NBA. They just don't play enough defense to warrant that type of claim.

Bibby might be a top 5 SG, but he's not a top 5 PG.

Next Ben Wallace in the college game seems to be Sheldon Williams, against NCSU I believe he got a triple double.........with 10 blocks. He is by far the best defensive player in college and a guy we should be dying to get.

This is a big-time myth. Sheldon puts up good numbers like any good Dukie but he has been getting torched by good post players. Also, I'm telling you, he's no more than 6'7". He can't match up against bigger players.

As for the Kings' youngsters, I like what I see. Martin is athletic and that jump shot looks a 1,000 times better. Garcia is tenacious and brings intangibles. But I'm not ready to hand over the franchise to them. I'm not a professional scout, but these guys like more like they're developing to be solid contributors, not stars.

I would also strongly dispute that Bibby is a Top-5 point guard. At this point he's a one-dimensional scorer who doesn't distribute well anymore and doesn't play defense. He looks great when his shot is falling, when it isn't he doesn't have any other way to help the team.

I'm a huge UNC fan, but this just isn't my opinion, this is the opinion of most people in the media. I used to say most Dukies suck in the NBA but that is no longer true, although most that stay 4 years aren't nearly as good as they were in college.

If you could please point out a better post defender in College, please don't say Josh Boone. He is bar far the best inside player in college offensively and defensively and I don't think anyone is a close second. Aldridge might have more potential but Sheldan is definitely much more complete now. 18/9/3.7 bps and 2.1 spg @ 61% from the field and 75% from the line aren't slouch numbers by any means.

I didn't say he was Ben Wallace, I said he could possibly be a Ben Wallace type and hopefully Ben Wallace like. Ben Wallace is 6-9, 240 and according to NBAdraft.net and ESPN, Sheldon is 6-9 250. The reason I said he's the "next" Ben Wallace is because I was referring to his great defensive skills, and is definitely an upgrade defensively over any post guy on our team. SKinner isn't bad, but he'll never fit in because as we know Adelman needs players who play O to be on the court most of the time.

I like the effort and play by the youngsters as of late too.. but they are HARDLY the next Hamilton/Prince in my eyes. Premature at this stage to compare them even to the likes of major contributors like Daniels and Howard. The guys have plenty of upside and have been playing well. I just think its very early to set such high expectations of them at this point.

I think the tide is starting to turn in the National Media, Chris Ford, Bomani Jones and others have called Shelden out on his subpar defensive efforts against top opponents. Shelden's help defense is great and he has long arms which helps him block shots, but he's not a good one-on-one defender. He has given up career nights to Cedric Simmons (28 and 9), Marco Killingsworth (34 and 10) and LaMarcus Aldridge (21 and 6)

I don't know who the top post defender is -- there are just too many players out there to say that one rises above. I haven't seen Tyrus Thomas play but I hear he's a beast...

To keep us on topic, um, yeah, go Kevin Martin.

IDK....I guess the DPOY from last year isn't that great, he's still better than probally all other alternatives for us. We need a great help defender. He might not be the best ever, but he's definitely better than any option on the Kings, currently defensively.

CaminoChaos:

Last night I was about to write about our two youngsters and compare them to that duo!!!!! LOL I never made the thread, because I started getting into the whole "molding after Detriot", and about trading some guys so I figured I wouldn't start a thread about trades again :)
