The Breakdown

Inject this into my veins. I feel for the defenders whose heads are spinning.

How is it even possible to revamp the entire offense and defense in a single offseason? Monte, Mike and the team are already ahead on the growth curve. LFG!
The system on both ends, according to Coach Brown, seems to revolve around having certain principles and rules, then letting our multiple playmakers on the floor make split-second decisions based on the dynamic of the opposing defense based on those principles and rules. So in theory, once the players had made those rules a habit (forcing ball handlers to the side of the floor and not allowing them to go center is one of those principles in defense if I remember correctly), your ceiling will just depend on how quickly your playmakers can find the right play to make at any given moment.

So in turn, it created a scenario where a lot of these "counter moves" do not have to be drawn up or designed, they'll be improvised based on the players' situational awareness.

It's crazy how much good content there has been made about the Kings the past few weeks - my basketball algorithms were entirely hot takes and the local podcast usuals. But damn this Ben Taylor is so next level.

I guess I'd love to see one of these on all 30 teams, or one on Luke's teams - just so I can better understand where Brown's coaching ranks, because when it is broken down at this detail it's almost like the metaphorical 14 dimensional chess.

I always enjoy Ben Taylor’s stuff. I even bought his book that talks about basketball myths and the rise of analytics.

Flat out, I love most of it, but some of it doesn't fit this team. This is why the performance of some players like Huerter is probably more important than it should be. However, while this is waaaay better than no movement in the end, this team will be a game that relies on two man game. This team overall has way more than enough talent to be good offensively regardless. Bring on a consistent switch defense.

We're 2 months of an NBA season into this offense. I think like the 99 Kings team - it was maybe only after we traded J-Will for Bibby that we were running that offense at peak efficiency. So step one is implementing it and step two is getting players that can run it 100% of the time.

All in all, from basically having a free for all for three years to this is amazing.
