The Artest superstar myth

#31
I don't even see Artest as an all-star let alone a "star".

He is nothing more than a roleplayer that tries too hard to be something he's not.

I have been saying the superstar arguement for about 3 years now... thats not the point of this thread.

We get a #1... Artest is a very very solid #2 and a lock down defender. Problem is, I think he would have to be involved to get any sort of nice picks/player.

Actually, the problem is that Ron honestly believes himself to be a #1.

Tsk! Tsk! Poor Ron. He is obviously delusional when he thinks of himself as a #1 (and as equivalent to a Kobe or a Lebron). It's a shame too. He has so many talents to bring to the game, but it is, apparently, not enough.

I think Ron is actually a better and more intimidating player when he's got his nutcase going on. Maybe his problem is he has been too good a boy :)

Ron is one of the only playes that I have seen that can completely and utterly SHUT down some of the games best. I remember Joe Johnson had one of his worst games against Ron Ron, Carmelo was dreadful against him, Kobe went for 30 --on 30 shots--, Ginobli was completely taken out of his game in the playoffs and the few games they played in the regular season last year, save when Ron was suspended for one game, but the point is, he has that effect on players. He doesn't even need to be on the court. Ginobli is the perfect example, he didn't shoot, drive, or even ask for the ball. Even when Ron was sitting. I can only remember one game when Ron was truly dominant on the offensive end and that was vs the Clips last year. Other than that, he wasn't so good.

That's the frustrating part. If he didn't have the ability, then we wouldn't look for. He DOES have it, though. And we as fans have the right to expect to see it. At first, he seemed to be the iron man - the player who would just grab some duct tape, re-attach that limb, and go back on the court. Now he's sitting out games for a myriad of problems that just seem so beneath him. AND when he does play, it's as though he's one step away from the wheelchair.

I'm not asking for heroics every night but I'd sure like to see someone who resembles the first rather than the second.
