The All-Star Weekend discussion thread

Wasn't Markkanen already upgraded to a starter to take Zion's spot?

EDIT: Re-reading what you wrote, I guess you knew that already. I don't think moving the starter picks after the reserves is about helping him save face in front of his home crowd though because it basically guarantees that he will be picked last. They've always had the starters drafted separate from the reserves because otherwise there could be an uneven number on each team. Maybe it's just about saving the most exciting part of the LIVE draft until the end so they can throw in another commercial break to build anticipation or something?
see I didn't know all that because I haven't watched an All Star game since before they moved to this format.

I may be Old Man Yells at Cloud™ here, but they keep trying to "Make Fletch Happen" with this Skills Challenge, and it'll never be as popping to me as the Dunk Contest, no matter how many down years the Dunk Contest has.

Hopefully I don't have to repeat where I stand on the three-point contest.

It is kinda funny, though, how the Antetokounmpos finished second in all three events, and ended with a zero score.

It's hard to take any event seriously when there's a car on the court and rotating plastic thingamobs like a Nickelodeon game show. I do like the three-point shootout though, often more than the dunk contest. In theory the dunk contest is the best part of All Star weekend but a lot of them have been pretty underwhelming. It doesn't help that the top players refuse to participate so we often get guys in there who are barely NBA players.

Meh. People are still coming up with new ways to dunk; there's basically only one way to shoot a three-pointer.

That's a fair point. Once the props and costumes and guest stars started to upstage the actual dunking though is when I stopped caring. It should be player, basketball, and maybe a teammate as far as I'm concerned -- let's see how creative you can be with just your hops. That's my Old Man Yells at Cloud bit. :)

On the other hand, the winner of the three-point contest is decided objectively. The dunk winner is basically determined in a popularity contest. I haven't cared about the dunk contest since Gerald Wallace got hosed by the "judges".

I'm happy to see Lillard win one of these -- I'd forgotten how good of a shooter he is.

With the addition of the “starry” bonus shots, it’s not surprising Dame took it down. Hit both of them in his final round. 6 point boost.

You might as well have said that you only care when a Kings player is in it, because that definitely wasn't the last good Dunk Contest.

The Monarchs fan in me will not allow me to like Sue Bird but, I must admit, these Carmax commercials where she and Candace Parker stay roasting Steph Curry do make me smile.

I bet Kev died inside a bit after that performance. Poor guy, he said on the radio that he even borrowed racks from a local school to practice on since the team ones were a different height. Usually when I’m missing shots like he was I’m not getting enough rotation on the ball and need a stronger follow through
