People really need to calm down with the he had a good draft when Caldwell is the only one out of his rookies who has shown to have a legit NBA skill while all of them should be NBA ready at there ages they are less ready than most of the 19 year olds coming in and wouldn't play in nearly any other team.
Yes, and we used it as a sweetener in a deal.

Complete disagree regarding both Clifford and Reynaud. Tell me how they don't have "legit NBA skill"? From the draft positions in which they were taken, they surpass the talent/skill that might be expected, IMO.

Pretty much everyone is right here, whether it's bad timing or not. Nique and Raynaud have not have good overall rookie seasons for their respective ages. Raynaud has been better than Nique. Both guys just had monster games, which is awesome to see. Neither game negates the dozens of other games they haven't played well in. Both guys are rookies so they need time to grow but neither one is a young rookie so they should have performed a bit better than they have up to this point. Especially Nique, less so with Raynaud being a second round pick.
The rest of the season should be interesting. Hopefully the rookies and Carter trade monster games to finish the year so we have something to look forward to next year.

it occurs to me that perry may be under orders to find picks who are NOT 19.
because if your first contract pays you, let's say 4 mil/4,8 mil/5.3 mil and 6 mil over your first four years, now the amount that you can extend is finite (let's say three years for 16 mil per)
then at age 29 you come up for your big payday and the team trades you (or signs and trades you). but you've gotten a good chunk of your pick's "prime".
it seems to make logical financial sense to draft a guy who has plenty pf "schooling" and who will not be commanding major money until he is in or exiting his prime rather than to draft a 19 year old (see: Fox) and at age 25/26 he commands major dollars.
for a team trying to stay under the cap, my strategy would be to trade down (again and again) and try to find keepers at 12-15 (again and again)
(not THIS draft, of course, because we already have a great shot at a batman - but after that, no tanking because we don't need a second batman and you should be able to find a robin - or a keegan - late in the lottery).

Didn't Skal Labaissare do the same when he went like 32 and 11 against the Suns in a win in his rookie year? (While being like 2-3 years younger) I'm not saying there's no hope or to give up on the rookies I'm just saying it's way to early to say Perry had a good draft and that I don't see what skill set Max and Unique bring atm that helps the team win.

Raynaud has brought a lot to the team as a backup to Sabonis' missing year. Among rotation players, he is second to Cardwell in FG%, and third in rebounds per 36 minutes, albeit well behind Sabonis and Cardwell. You always need shooting and rebounding. Maxime needs to be able to actually secure more of the rebounds he gets his hands on. In general, he needs more seasoning to be able to impact games in a positive way. I do not see him as able to dominate any time in the near future, but he certainly can be a valuable role player.
The jury is out on Clifford. He does not stand out in any statistical category, yet he is +.7 over the last fifteen games, behind only Malik Monk at +1.7. Nique seems to be a glue guy. We'll have to see how he develops.

I'll just to on record that I think folks are underselling Nique. He has a complete skill set - good shot, court vision, ability to assist and rebound, generally unselfish. And by the eye test, he's an above average (for this team) for on-ball defender. For most of the first part of year, he was clearly deferring to the vets in terms of any kind of aggressiveness on offense, and as he's gotten a bit more aggressive, you see his production increasing. Still an adjustment to facing NBA level talent. Now that he's been freed from being behind our aging vets and is getting more minutes, we've already seen improvement, though consistency is still developing. I have little doubt he'll be a strong rotational player. I'd be intereseted to see him get starting minutes with Keegan, as I think they will complement each other well.
People keep talking about how good he should be "for his age"... he's been in the NBA for less than a year, he's adjusting just like most NBA players. I think we'll be happy how we see him playing if he continues to get the minutes he has now for the rest of the year. Agree with Caccia that I think he'll be an important glue guy for this team going forward.
