Brick rebounding48..... reminded me I had not updated the Kings team stats in Hustle items and offense since early January. I look at these as the biggest indicator of team improvement or slide and where the real problems lay. Unfortunately they only illustrate what most of us already know. So here goes:
Hustle Stats as of 2/14/05 (compared with 1/5/05)
Reb 42.3 11 (12)
Ast 25.0 1 ( 1)
Stl 8.1 8 (14)
TOs 12.7 1 (1)
Offensive stats
scoring 103.1 2 (2)
FT 78.7% 4 (2)
FGM 46.1% 5 (8)
Opp FGM 45% 19 (16)
3pt 37.2% 8 (15)
Record 33-18 vs 18-9 so we are 15-9 since early January
This points up two bad decreases: our own FT% has dropped a bunch (hard to put a finger on that but trying too hard?) and the Opponent FG% has increased a bunch, our defense is getting worse (duh!).
I should have put that our opponent scoring is up to 100.1 putting us 26th in the league in point defense and giving us a scoring differential of only 3.0. Having said that, the scoring diff puts us up at #8 with 5 of the 7 teams above us also having better records than the Kings.
On the plus side the Kings have improved in Steals, FG% and 3pt shooting and we are still #1 in Assists and fewest turnovers, two very important stats
What does it all tell us? Not much really. We know the Kings are inconsistent (DUH!), can't beat the better teams above them home or away yet (but it is closer) and are only just now developing a bench, sort of.
So lets see after the next 8 road games. That should tell us a bunch.
