And here's a teaser from an interview they had over there with Jeff Probst. He was asked about Survivor: Fiji...

Jeff Probst: The overall theme is letting them make almost every decision in terms of how this game will play out in the initial setup. That was the big idea. It starts with 19 people because we had somebody quit the night before, which has never happened before, so that threw us for a bit of a loop because we didn't anticipate an odd number.

They're literally just put on a beach. They've got some fruit trees there, but that's it. I come over in a float plane and drop a box. And in that box they start to get the information. And the information is you're gonna need to build the most elaborate shelter "Survivor" has ever seen. Here's blue prints, a building plan, a map to find lumber and tools. You've got a sink and a kitchen area and a couch, all kinds of stuff to build this elaborate shelter. They're told they have to finish this before the game can continue.

They build this great shelter. They've got water and flint. Once they finish building it, I show up and say, "Now you're gonna figure how to divide these tribes up." They choose somebody to divide the tribes. That person divides them, and they square off in a challenge. The losers have to go to a new beach where they literally have a machete, pot and water they have to boil. No fire. They have a cave they can kind of get under, but it's miserable.

The game is about one tribe living a life of luxury, and the other tribe really scraping to get by while the other tribe has it so good it almost doesn't feel like "Survivor" to them. They have a couch. They have tables. The tribe that wins the first challenge goes back to this reward, which is all these luxury items. They're not necessarily better. They just make life better like hammocks and umbrellas and bottles and decanters and all this silverware and plates and china and a bush shower. So you see them eating. It looks like some sort of Ralph Lauren picnic.

The other tribes show up and they're dragging their butts because they haven't even had water. What was really interesting was how quickly you started to see the attitude change where the winning tribe started to have this sense of entitlement. It was fascinating to watch the rich tribe get lazy and entitled and the poor tribe get desperate and resentful.

:)

looks like a Skinner experiment.

I also like the careers listed:
Witness locator
Construction/fighter
Cheer coach/boxer
Electroclash singer
Pageant coach
The quitter
// since I didn't know whatthehell it meant...
Electroclash is a much-derided contemporary marketing term (often times confused as a "genre") describing a much-derided style of music that fuses new wave, punk, & electronic dance music. The movement combines this 1980s sound (using synthesizers, drum machines, etc) with visuals from the post-1970s Westwood & Warhol fashion/art scenes, with a decidedly mid-70s German influence. It mainly developed in the mid to late 1990s in New York City and Detroit.

Thanks, Doc. I meant to look that up but got sidetracked...

I was a little disappointed to see how many people they picked from Southern California this time. 9 out of 20 (10 if Ross counts - I have no idea where it is) seems a bit excessive. And 12 out of the original 20 are from California.

There are pictures available at SurvivorUpdates and at www.cbs.com/survivors

the socal thing is getting REALLY annoying. the show has too much recruitment. they need to go back to old fashion WATCHING VIDEOS! it's not like there aren't otehr parts of the country with interesting people

i like having a redneck with a weird accent, a genuine kid from the south, the lumberjack type from the forest areas, the party college kid, you get the idea. i like the diversity from a country standpoint, not a racial standpoint. having redudant people who are trying to become actors is annoying! get real fans on the show, not wannabe stars looking for their 15 minutes of fame.

put ME on the show!

North Bay...San Rafael, basically.

Anyway, I was a bit bummed by this also. You know they'll list their jobs as "Waiter" or "Barista", when they're all really just trying to break into acting.

Most of the people in SoCal are from someplace else anyway...

2 weeks have passed nad i haven't picked anyone to really root for....

i like erika until she freaked out.. she didn't deserve to go. sylvia has done nothing...

this is a slow starting survivor that is for sure. hopefully it'll heat up soon

I know what you mean. I don't know if it's because they've learned that people who step up often get kicked off first or if the producers just picked a bunch of people with weird jobs but blant personalities or what... I like some of the twists in the show; I'm just not that enamored of any of the survivors quite yet.

I think this is the case EVERY season:

it starts dull, slowly gets interesting... and then it starts to get dull again for me near the end.

This is a rather boring season so far. BUT, seeing Sylvia flail around on her belly tring to make her little body move down the large slip n slide was priceless.

But I agree that nobody has really stood out. I like Rocky and Earl. And Boo makes me laugh. But other than that everyone is forgettable. To quote Simon Cowell-personalities of a candle.

In a very strange twist, Modo won the immunity challenge but then were faced with a choice: Either give up their cushy surroundings and change places with Ravo, OR keep their comfort and give up the immunity. They chose the latter and headed to tribal council where Lilians was blindsided and sent home. Gary aka Papa Smurf was taken away by the medical team when his condition deteriorated and he chose to be evacuated. He will not return. So, in one episode, the sizeable lead Modo had been enjoying is now gone. Both teams have 7 members remaining.

Somehow I wish that Moto would have given up their digs. I'm really bored out of my mind with this season.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I agree...what a sleeper. I'm having a hard time caring for any of these people.

I suspect that "Expect the unexpected" might just happen sooner rather than later. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find the producers are going to arbitrarily switch the campsites of the tribes.

this season has failed to captivate me like it has in the past. the people they casted this season have been horrendous. rocky is a character, but some of these clowns are ridiculous.

i still have no one to root for. damn sooner or later all the girls will be gone.. EVERY single person that has been voted out has been a girl. gary was medivacted out... not voted out. lame! get rid of the guys!

I don't know, I found that last night's episode was rather interesting. I haven't figured who I really like, it's more like I can't stand any of them, but some I can't stand more than others.

Next for hopeful exits:

Lisi
Lisi's Sidekick.

If I didn't know the filming was already over, I'd be tempted to try and ship a "care package" to Ravo - with the proviso that they boot Rocky out at the next opportunity. He's really grating.

I still think there's going to be some kind of major twist.

I watched last night. I think the fact Rocky got two votes is gonna cause problems. One vote he could understand but the knowledge that someone else wanted him gone MORE than Anthony might just be the one thing he can't let go...

I figured there'd be a major twist, but I didn't figure they'd totally redo the tribes. Kind of interesting...

Didn't they say at the beginning that there are TWO immunity idols hidden for this season?

I didn't notice that he'd gotten two votes, Who else voted for him?

yes there is an immunity idol in each camp, I believe. Had Yowman (spelling?) gotten off his duff and found the idol (THAT HE KNEW THE LOCATION OF) in his other camp, he would've actually been able to grab BOTH of them... THAT would've been cool ;)

I'm pretty sure I heard Jeff say two votes for Rocky. I didn't see the very end, however, so I don't know who the second vote was from. I think Rocky is about to find himself in a heap of dooty, however. His attitude just ain't gonna cut it with that particular group of guys, especially when the ones who haven't been on a tribe with him find out how little he actually does to contribute to the tribe welfare. Close to poetic justice that he won't have Anthony around any longer to pick on and order about.

I just watched it again tonight since my wife missed it last night...I'm almost positive there was only one vote for Rocky.

That immunity challenge was one of my favorites. That one took some serious imagination and planning. The fact that it was that close made it even better.

YAY!!!

I am so glad Rocky and Lisi are gone... Interesting twist that each team has multiple people "controlling" an immunity idol.

I missed the previews for next week. Anything look interesting?

thank god lisi is gone. i hated her!

hahah i loved how the guys found the idol. that was hilarious! mookie should keep it, he's gonna need it sooner then the other guys

my 3 favs are michelle, yau man and earl. yau man is so awesome! i hope he makes it far

new buffs next week means a merge! woohoo weoo

Mookie has to be the biggest failure at strategizing of any contestant in the history of reality TV.
