Storm at Monarchs Post-game Notes and Quotes

Thought they played much better today, it took a while again to get the defense going and the offense for that matter was slow and clanky again. Although we going some nice scoring from the wings today - I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally would like them to stop passing up shots. They've got to stop over passing and somebody actually want to take a shot every once and while just for kicks. Oh, and let's try to shoot better than 50% from the FT line just for kicks too.

Nice performance from Ticha...I sorta got the feeling that she was saying..."I've got your honorable mention riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight here"....

Buescher was tremendous, and the minutes from Brunson were subsequently carved into.

I'm watching the Sparks/Sun game right now....the Ms will have their hands full tomorrow. Hope the traveling contingent of fans bring their mojo. We got some help in the conference today, thought we might get a little more from CT and CHI, but oh well. Gotta take what we make and can get.

The BBQ this afternoon was nice (and hot) ...got to meet little Zachara. :)

Buescher is playing out of her mind. To have her come off the bench and provide that energy is a Godsend for this team, espesically this season.

Speaking of coming off the bench, do you think Coach's little experiment today with Kara not starting? He said that it was pretty much defense motivated, but I think its good for this team to have additional energy (and scoring) coming off the bench. How many times this season has the game started with the team in a lull and then the bench comes in to infuse them and get them back in the game.

I'm not sure he's settled on a permanent starter at the SG spot, so there may be a continual revolving door on that.

The bench has pretty much been the only place we've gotten consistent production - actually maybe it's just Maiga-Ba and Buescher who've been the most consistent. They need to ride the wave that Buescher is giving them (ooh, nice sufing connection) until they can fuse together some semblance of decent production out of the PF slot that Brunson and Walker will share at some point. Maybe between Brunson and a rusty Walker we can get half of what we got from that starting slot late last season.

You're right on the money...the bench has kicked serious butt this year to get them back into games. I hope the starting unit gets their act in gear at some point so they don't burn the bench out before the allstar break.

"I can't hear youuuuu!"

Loved the effort from Ticha tonight! She brought it on both ends of the floor and really helped get the team over the hump in that fourth quarter. And I think it's perfectly fitting that Bird was on the embarrassing end of the matchup tonight (as per the usual), but especially in light of the snub.

Buescher gets absolutely NO love from the officials, she was getting hammered in the lane... no calls. But I loved that she finished anyways, she really is eating up Brunson's minutes. But she has been so damn effective that it's hard to keep her off the court.

Nice to see Kara have a good outing, maybe coming off the bench is what we really need from her. She still gets minutes with the starters, but it's nice to have her scoring boost off the bench.

Loved the Dads out there with the Hip Hop Crew! Always entertaining. Also thought the two little girls on the national anthem were adorable! Lil Zachara had a nice courtside seat, but I didn't get more than a glance at her in her carseat.

I think that Whisenant never should have put Lawson in the starting lineup in the first place; I think that Lawson is most effective as a focal point of the offense, which should only happen when she's coming off the bench, as the ball should be going to Griffith or Powell when the starters are on the floor. But especially Griffith: it really chaps my hide to see teams like Houston and Los Angeles and Connecticut actually run plays for their centers, and see them involved in the offense every time down the floor, and for us to have one of the top two or three centers in the history of the league, and she doesn't even touch the ball half the time on offense.

I also think that Dorrell is probably better defensively, and I'm more comfortable with the Monarchs starting the game with their best possible defenders. But, even though I'm more of a defense guy, I do agree that there should always be at least one perimeter threat on the floor. And, since Maïga-Ba can't effectively play SG, it's either start Lawson and sit Powell, or start Powell and sit Lawson.

All things being equal, I'd rather sit Lawson, but that's also in no small part due to the fact that I still don't quite trust Haynie to run the team when a veteran isn't in the backcourt with her, and I feel a lot more comfortable about Haynie running the point when Lawson's out there to help her than I do when it's just Haynie and Dorrell.

I'm liking Erin's game more and more. I think the respect from the officials will come...especially if she continues to keep her cool and just play her game, regardless of the dirth of calls going her way.

I have also decided that I do not like the Seattle Storm - at all.
