Stats don't lie. Stats don't tell the whole story either. Through the first 6 preseason games the Kings had 3 very bad stats and 4 good or very good stats. After 3 road games to open the season lets take a look at where there were improvements. Numbers are % (rounded off)
First the good:
Stls TO's Pts FT%
9.......17 99 82 (preaseason)
11.....16 88 81 (after 3 road games to open season)
Now the Bad:
PF FG% 3pt%
25 42 34 (preaseason)
29 38 31 (after 3 road games to open season)
The good got better except for points. But the bad got worse. But bad is not all bad as opponents were held to 39.5% FG and only 16.7% from 3-pt range.
The worst stats of all Kings/Opponents are:
Reb 43/55, PF 30/18 thus allowing opponents 12 more opportunities from rebounding and 11 more free shots and thus the 88/97 difference in points made.
Could it be they are trying so hard on defense they forgot about rebounding and are using arms and hands to defend creating gynormous disparity and giving opponents 11 free shots a game.
From Coach CruzDude on his couch by the sea, here is the 4-step solution:
1. Defend the player as you seem to be doing but don't use so much hands;
2. Defending is also getting rebounds. Seems Pacers always had 3 athletic players going after balls at the rim when only Cuz or JT was there. Where were Kings forwards?
3. Slow down and set the tempo with aggessive defense. Figure out how to take better shots. Don't be so quick to put it up there.
4. Score more points than the other guy.
