I think a number of us here are really torn about this current season. We know this isn't a perfect team; we know this isn't a group of players that will go far if they manage to stumble into the playoffs.
Our problem is, even with that knowledge, we want to root for them to win. It's a natural phenomena - it's much more fun to root for a team that's winning than one that's losing.
There's nothing wrong with rooting for the team we have now. And, on the other hand, there's nothing wrong with wanting some trades to occur that will blow up this current team and bring in a new one.
I think the problem comes with timing. We're in the eye of the storm right now. The trade deadline is still nearly two weeks away. The draft won't take place until after the smoke has cleared from the NBA finals. We have to try and find a way to exist. We either continue to be fans or we step back and wait and see what happens.
I don't fault anyone who is totally disgusted with what they've seen (or more importantly, perhaps, NOT seen) from the front office so far this year. I can fully understand the frustration and anger at what hasn't been done.
On the other hand, I still think there's a plan behind all of this. I may not understand the plan, but I think it's there. I think Petrie has a reason for not making any moves thus far. I think he's made some overtures but none that have panned out and been right for what he wants to do.
I'd just like to remind people that we're all here because we do love the Kings. We may have different ways of expressing it and our ideas about how and what changes should be made differ, but at the very end we want the same thing. And I think what we all would love to see is another team as exciting as the one we watched a couple of years ago go further than any Sacramento Kings team has ever gone.
I know I'd like a year without the drama that's seemed to become too much a part of our daily routine as Kings fans.
I guess this is just a pep talk. We have some of the best fans in the NBA posting on this forum and I hope we can make it through this time and come out the other end without too many of them just giving up and walking away - from us and the team we love.
So, let's just say GO KINGS!!!
