Hall of Famer
Spencer!

I want to point out how well Spencer has played the last couple of games. I have been pretty critical of him lately, but he has definately stepped it up. His energy is better. He has a bounce in his step. He has confidence. He's shooting 3's, which is part of his game, but he's also banging down low. He's not Dwight Howard, but I see a greatly improved effort down low. And his passing vs. the lakers was impressive to say the least. Spencer had a very rough start to the season, and most fans were all over him, myself included. But I want to point out that Spencer seems to be turning a corner, and it hasn't gone without notice.

Keep up the good work Spencer!

I agree. He will have more rough patches, but I think that in the end he might after all be the Kings' next Vlade. It probably won't happen this year, but hopefully it will happen by the time the Kings are ready to contend for the title again.

I don't think anyone here really knows how good Vlade wa s when he was 21. Games like this show how much potential Spencerhas. But it will take time, just like it did for Vlade. Wasn't he like 30 yrs old when he signed with us.?

I have been VERY critical of Spencer for the past 10 days or so. I give him credit last night. He was tough, he was hustling, he was banging, GREAT passing, and overall he was HELPING ur Kings.

He needs to continue with that energy every night.

By the way, what the hell happened to him late... he disappeared to the bench and never returned. Was it a case of the Brockness Monster just working so hard Westphal couldnt take him out?

I totally agree with giving credit to Hawes.

hawes was great yesterday. gave them a little taste of vlade-like passing.. i loved the one play where donte stole the ball, outleted it to beno, beno passed it to hawes and hawes alley ooped thompson. that was just amazing.. my buddys who are raptors fans were very impressed with the kings and spence.

This is the sort of game I expected from Hawes when we drafted him. He was a terrific passer in college. Much has been made of Bynum and his potential. And while I personally think that he's somewhat overrated, some on this fourm have lusted after him. Take away Gasol, Kobe and company and Bynum is just an average big man.

My point is that last night Hawes outplayed him, which is proof that Hawes is capable of playing at a higher level than he had previously been playing at. Hopefully we'll start to see it on a more regular basis.. Great job last night..

From what I've read of the man (I never really wached him early in his career either) Vlade had a commitment to improving that went way beyond professionalism or even drive. He was obsessed with the game.

Dude took piano lessons simply to improve the strength and control of his individual digits, he reportedly spent hours lying in bed every night just envisioning plays, running through possible reads and reactions in his mind.

To compare anyone to Vlade is unfair to both the player, who probably isn't that mad, and to Vlade, who was.

That said, Spencer can be a pretty special player. But I believe that the "core" ability for any center, the one every other ability hinges on, is that of positioning. And he really needs to improve there.

Beyond this, Spencer has been playing much more aggressive and decisive recently. I think he has been great in 3 of the last 4 games (Bucks, Cavs, Lakers). He may finally be understanding what PW wants from him. He seems to be mixing his outside shot with some inside moves and rebounding much more than earlier in the season. I think he's had an adjustment period finally having a real coach who wants him to play like a real center. And PW may have had an adjustment to having a center who can shoot and pass like Spencer. I am optimistic that things are coming together for the kid though.

He did everything great except the one thing he needs to really work on... He's so SOFT around the basket on offense! Gasol had 4 blocks on him because of his soft flutters at the basket instead of making a strong move. I really don't understand. I mean if I could dunk, I would throw it down like Kenyon Martin every time. Yet for some reason Spencer prefers the little floater around the basket. Make a strong move and at the very least he draws a foul. But I agree, he hustled his butt off out there and made some pretty passes.

I totally agree.

I think Spencer is reading these posts and it's having a positive effect. (I wish)

He's definitely turning the corner, and it's nice to see. He's playing a lot more aggressively and seems like he's having fun out there. Hawes, Thompson, and Greene, are all showing improvement from last year.

Especially Greene. last night has to be his best all around game. The word impact springs to mind. If he can become consistant and play like that everynight, he becomes a very important part of the team for the future.

Greene has been most impressive this year. What is most impressive is when he's on he doesn't just dominate on one side of the ball he dominates both sides. I really get excited when I think what this kid can be a few years down the road (with his impressive Defensive play I no longer think Rashard Lewis) I think he can be a much more complete player then Rashard.

his skill set is the reason why he will stay long in the league.. as every one ages the athletic prowess

spencer has been awesome against the lakers drawing bynum away from the paint and setting up easy layups for beno but to truly tap and harness that potential we need a bigman to mentor him. i mean bynum had kareem if spence had a guy like hakeem or something his game would be so much better too :D

The Dream is working with Josh Smith and his moves are still as smooth as they have been even if he is over 40

I was proud of how Spencer played last night. I saw a fire inside him, and I hope it continues to grow. If he continues to play like he did last night, I would love for him to be with the Kings for a very long time! He deserves the props!!
