He's not the answer to the question they are asking.And we almost forget that May beat out Hawes in training camp to be starting center for first few games of this season. All that experiment soon told Westphal was that May was definitely, 100% certain not the answer. Well, now Spencer may not be the answer either but that's not 100% conclusion at only 21. Problem is after May, after Spencer, there's clearly no easy answer, unless you want to stick JT in the 5 spot as discussed earlier in this thread.
As long as they ask Hawes to be a power center who mainly rebounds and defends, he will never work out. Ever. He's not that kind of player, because he's not that skilled in those areas, and he's physically inferior to a lot of centers.
So my point is, Hawes is not the answer, if you want your center to primarily do those things.
And as for JT...at least he rebounds better consistently, but his defense is downright subpar. Not just his foul trouble, but his inability to help out with interior rotations and total lack of shot blocking despite his athleticism and size.
Neither of these guys are even good defensively.
