Since Mike Malone firing, the Kings lack spirit, identity
Many moons ago, the blog Basketbawful coined the phrase "dead coach bounce" to describe "the burst of inspired play a team experiences immediately following an in-season coaching change." We might need a new phrase to refer to what the Sacramento Kings are going through. After firing head coach Mike Malone and replacing him with Tyrone Corbin, it's been more of a crash than a bounce.

Cousins is Sacramento's only real difference-maker on defense. Under Malone, though, the Kings were disciplined. The effort was there. They were physical and they were excellent at rebounding, at least before Cousins was sidelined in late November. You can't say any of that anymore.

Hadn't seen this particular article, so thanks? Not sure how much more national media attention I can take at this point. And the worst part? They're not saying anything all of us aren't saying.

I am not a happy Kings fan.

Not posted here no, but i just added that to our facebook page a couple of hours ago.

The most remarkable thing about this whole debacle is how virtually universal the disdain has been. Locals have gotten it. Fans, media. National media. National fans. The team itself. There appear to be maybe 3 people in the entire NBA universe who think this was swell, and even they might be regretting it at this point.

hopefully after monday morning, at least one of the three stooges will be regretting it

"They're all doubting us. Good. That means we're thinking outside of the box. Now, let's call Corbin in and see what he thinks about my idea to sign a dog to the team. I saw it on a movie once. The dog did really well."
oh god, don't give them ideas. Next Pete is going to say "The fans in Sacramento want to see house pets on the court instead of players"

I am expecting an absolute avalanche of PR propaganda to come out of the Kings starting this Monday on how the future is bright, of how we are going to be an exciting team that will win the championship in the new arena. How fast pace is the way to go and how we are going to prove everyone wrong. If Kings fans fall for this rubbish, we really deserve nothing better than what we are currently getting.

They will try to make a splashy move to buy back some trust from the fan base and since we are bulking at George Karl's asking price, we are probably going to make a trade for someone else's trash that we will sell as out treasure (e.g. Deron Williams who was done 3 years ago). It's all going to be part of the Kings propaganda going forward. I am disgusted with what these guys have done to the team and how they are going to spin this around into a positive.

Stay strong Kings fans and DON'T believe the bullcrap that we will be bombarded with.

There's a kingsfans.com fb page? Since when?

After a quick re-read I think sdbaaller is right on this one... at first I thought he was acknowledging some of the heat he has been catching, but I think I over read into it. There was a second part to the tweet:
I love your passion on every issue - whether positive or negative. Keep pushing us. Can't wait to see you on Wednesday. #SacramentoProud
But given the ickyness of the context I think it's best to just let it go for now.

Kings Nation - I see you and am OK and not offended. But want to thank you for the support. Your passion truly inspires me. #SacramentoProud

So he addresses a washed up peter vesceys late night drunk racist tweet, but nothing in regards to the thousands of tweets from fans asking for answers in regards to the team.

This was a terrible tweet but it does divert some of attention from the issues of the front office. I too am expecting a heavy PR push to try to make the fans forget about Malone and buy into their fancy ideas. Problem is there is still a basketball team to watch and no matter what positive PR the FO's PR team puts out the team will be a constant reminder of all of their failures.

I don't think this is it. I think the reason Malone got canned, and the reason Karl won't get hired, is CONTROL. It looks like they have some things they want to implement and they don't want a coach that has their own ideas on how to win. You know, things like defense and a grind-it-out game running through Boogie with Malone. And someone posted somewhere about how Mullin may not have the best relationship with Karl, and we also know that Karl is a coach who will do what he wants and not necessarily what the FO would like him to do.

Vecsey is a hack and deserves to be hammered for making a tweet with racist undertones. And he deserves to be hammered for being wrong 85% of time.

I'm angered by the moves of the front office and ownership of the Kings as of late but there's no place (in my mind at least) for comments insulting their ethnicity or physical appearance.

And really, there's no shortage of actual substance to criticize them over and that's what the focus should be.

Of course he got some heat taken off him for a moment. Now it's time to go back after him

Agreed although ironic that so many of the members here have no problem calling Pete a gerbil.

Definitely a double standard when calling Vivek "Aladdin" sends people into frenzy to label Vecsey a racist, Yet calling PDA a term that is used for Richard Gere's favorite species of rodent gets almost no reaction. By the way I read some time ago that Sly Stallone is rumored to be the guy that got the gerbil rumor running about Richard Gere because they didn't get along on a set. If so greatest prank ever by Stallone as 30 years later people still remember it.

It's actually one of the kinder rodent terms I can think of.

And by the way, it's not racist, nor is it a double standard. It's just not. Unkind? Sure.

PDA's behaviors have certainly mimicked what has traditionally been associated with rodent behavior. He's a number cruncher who can't see past the spinning wheel to understand the outside world. Yeah, his looks probably don't help, but he was outlasting the nickname until the Malone firing.

It's nothing at all like being made fun of for your ethnicity.

That's not a term I've ever used to refer to D'Alessandro. I'm sure I've slipped up in the past (most likely involving the Maloofs) but in general I'm not big on name calling.

How is it a double standard? The issue isn't about whether an insult is OK, it's the presence of using some sort of stereotyping as a perceived insult. It doesn't even hit the intended mark as Aladdin is some made up Arabic background, and Vivek is from India. Poor effort from Vescey.

I understand Vecsey's is worse. What he said was a mistake and uncalled for but I just find it ironic that people will get so outraged about making a disparaging remark about one person and then make one about someone else and not think twice about it. There seems to be a lot of picking and choosing going on when it comes to insulting people. Personally I could care less either way as words are just words and they are not worth trying to destroy somebody over. This society is so absurdly politically correct now that you can't say anything without people labeling you a racist and trying to bring everything down around you.

One could also argue that because Pete D'Allesandro looks somewhat like a gerbil and has rodent like behavior in terms of managing the team that he is also being stereotyped as a gerbil. As Brick has indicated clearly his management is more like that of a weasel.

How long can a team continue to play without spirit and lacking identity? I think they are beginning to come around. The players and Corbin are beginning to talk like a normal bunch.
