Should Kings pursue Derek Fisher?

Should the Kings try for Derek Fisher off the waiver list?

Okay, word is that a buyout is either completed or eminent between Houston and Derek Fisher. From how I understand it, Fisher will then be available to be claimed through waivers by anyone but the Lakers.

So, here's my thought:

Why don't we grab him? He's a veteran and a savvy point guard. He's also, from all reports, an incredible teammate.

Could he be the Vlade2012 we've been looking for?

For a more serious response... how old is he and how much time does he have left?

Is it worth it to create an even bigger logjam at guard for a year or two of veteran leadership? I'd say probably not. I just don't think he's good enough to do that.

I have no problem with Fish, i'd do it.

That said, however, the more important question is: would he do it?

I believe the answer to that is no. Reports say he is looking to go to a contender.

I think this logjam is too subtle for most people to see. My tghoughts about the guard has room for Fischer at a vet minimum but I don't see him accepting that. We have too many guards that need court time to advance their skill level.

Not no way! Not no how, EVER! I dont hate him, but he will always be a faker....and one who has killed us over the years. His allegence will always lean to the southern part of the state plus a long list of other reasons. FAGEDABOUDIT....

You left off the option of HELL NO! Some things you just don't do and this would be one of them, too much history.

Breaking News: Derek Fisher is NOT a point guard - he's a combo. The Lakers have always known that fact and said as much - even though they've always listed Fisher as PG. No way Kings need this aging combo guard who is not a pure/true point guard by a long shot.

I would also say that given his age (37) he is seven years older than Vlade when we got him. Vlade2012 seems way, way optimistic even if Fisher were traded here (he'll sign with a contender as mentioned.)

Well from what I hear he's considering Mia, Chi and SA. Not sure how we'd make it on that list.;)

But aside from that, no. Barely offers anything at this point. On top of that, given our new style which in itself makes me want to puke, is exactly the system Fisher should stay away from. Fast breaking, gunning small ball might just be the worst possible fit for him. Also, I don't think he was ever that good at anything besides spot up shooting under pressure. He and Horry benefited incredibly from the star power on the Lakers, yet never themselves did much more than hit a few big shots off kickouts. If Fisher had at one time been great at breaking down defenses and creating for others, I might feel differently. But he just passed halfcourt and dumped it off to Kobe/Shaq.

I hope small-ball K Smart does not read this:

"Hmmm, we could start IT, DFish, MT and put Reke at the 4 spot."

Why would Derek Fisher want to play here in a rebuilding project? If that was the case, he would have stuck with Houston who is in the playoff hunt.

Fisher, if I'm not mistaken is in the last year of his two year deal. He is headed to Miami, like he was going to go in 2010 after "The Decision". He is going to back up Chalmers and try to stick it to the Lakers in The Finals if they both get there.

To be fair, Houston is not so much a rebuild job as a mediocre team that wound up in the midst of the playoff hunt.

I watch the Lakers all the time, the guy is done. if we're going to go the "bring back vet" route to teach the young players, i would bring someone like Mike Bibby, at least he is a Kings hero, and was here during the glory days. But even that would just be for a vet minimum.

I don't think he has much time left. But I would do it. Bring him in and have him teach our young guards how to lead a team. FTR, Fisher is the ONLY Laker ever that I have actually been able to stomach. Him and Pau.

No love for Luke Walton? How bout World Peace?

Maybe.

If he wants to come here for half a season, having an extra coach on the floor couldn't hurt. That's about all the positive I can think of. Realistically though, I'm pretty sure he'd want to go to a contender.

Why give Smart an option to run a IT, Fisher, MT, Reke and Salmon line up? Even better a IT, Fisher, Fredette, MT and Reke line up. Small ball FTW.

Nope. Legit question.

I wouldn't compare Fisher/Vlade because Fisher coming here at this point of his career isn't in the same vicinity as Vlade when he came here. BUT I would like him for his veteran presence though...we need it! And yes I KNOW its Derek F'n Fisher from THAT team, but you can't hate on his experience. He would be a great vet for our kids to look up to...oh, and ya GOTTA love the irony, too!

Stupid thread, stupid idea..

No.

Can't believe this thread was made, jesus.

He is horrible, and old.
